I got my ABS unit from Allmeg a few days ago, that was fast shipping. I plan on installing it this week. The R53 has Suppe Blue brake fluid in it now but I won’t be pushing it hard enough to worry about high temp fluid any more. That’s what the Helmet is for. So does anyone have a brake fluid preference? I know this is a little like the dreaded Oil wars!

Lee while you are at it might be a good time to install a set of cross drilled brake lines. http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=39
don't forget a vat of elbow grease before you tackle the installation http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9&products_id=23
When I replaced mine, I also had the “Brake Fluid Flush with ABS Cycle” procedure done. This required the MINI to be hooked up to a laptop and the ABS valves cycled and different caliper bled at different times. Lovely BMW system. While this was kinda a pain, I feel it was necessary. The brakes were perfect when finished and I have done 2-3 fluid replacements the old school way since. (But I track my MINI and replace my high temp fluid yearly)
I will be doing that. The code reader I have will do the ABS cycle. The good part is I will know I got all the air and have fresh fluid.
Would you please share the make/model of your code reader that works w/ the R53 and has this cycle in it?
Ok yes I will its the schwaben Professional Scaner. Mine is th Foxwell NT510 https://www.amazon.com/FOXWELL-Automotive-Diagnostic-Transmission-Registration/dp/B019QCG5RE/ref=sr_1_4_sspa?keywords=foxwell+nt510+Mini&qid=1551989215&s=gateway&sr=8-4-spons&psc=1
While you said you don’t race, letting others know a good high temp fluid that I use. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/wil-290-6209
Thanks @colinmini. The R53 is now my every day car, most of the hard driving is saved for the Helmet, it will be getting the high temp fluid.
Bleeding the ABS unit makes a world of difference and the Foxwell NT510 scanner does a good job. They cost around $150.
Isn't that how MA was founded? TYVM. I've put that on my Amazon wish list. I've got a cheapie ODB2 reader that I carry in the boot... this would be a nice upgrade one of these days... maybe once my wallet stops hurting from the clutch / LSD / PS Pump replacement that starts next week.
You won’t regret it. It’s a great tool right after I bought it I used it to register the battery in my wife’s R56 and my R58. That paid for it.
