LITTLE ROCK, AR – A tractor trailer carrying cars was too tall for the I-430 bridge over Colonel Glenn Road. Five cars were damaged Monday afternoon as the trailer went underneath the bridge, crushing the car on top and damaging the cars below.

No one was injured in the accident. It took several hours for work crews to extricate the trailer and mangled cars from the underside of the bridge. One car was so badly damaged in the wreck that it looked more like a ball of crumpled foil than a car.

The trailer was heading eastbound, in the left turn lane, on Colonel Glenn Road when the accident happened. The Highway Department does not expect the incident to cause any structural damage to the bridge.

When I worked at Ingersoll Rand in MI, we had built a production line for GM to assembly disc brake systems.
This line was 200 yds oval shaped with 64 stations and a 12' tall rack at the end of the line.
The rack was a removeable unit that stored 100 brake units.
The entire line had taken 4 months to build and costs over 1.9 million to mfg.
After GM bought off the system, a trucking company came in and loaded the line on 6 trucks.
The trucks left our company driveing in a convoy to 1 of the GM plants.
Less than 3 miles away from IR, the lead truck struck an overpass and destroyed the 8 rack units on it.
2 other trucks ran into all the parts on the highway and crashed and also dumped their loads on the road.
45 seconds and 4 months of work shot to hell.
