Mini Cooper Driver Pulls Major No-No On Express Lanes WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Sky 9 hovered over the 495 Express Lanes on Tuesday morning looking at the traffic navigating the entrance near Springfield. Several minutes into filming, the helicopter crew spotted a Mini Cooper pull a dangerous maneuver. Mini Cooper Driver Pulls Major No-No On Express Lanes | Video | wusa9.com
I was going to say "time to fire the navigator" but keep watching and you'll see someone else having the same problem / making a similar move just as the MINI leaves the scene. Unclear signage, maybe?
I see stuff like this every day. I'm astounded by the stupidity of some people. Just wow. ut: Both sexes can be equally stupid Adam. :yesnod:
OK, that is known as the "Mixing Bowl" and I use to drive it a lot. The overhead signs (northbound), with the arrows indicating the lane to be in, are NOT pointing to the correct lane and you don't realize it until the last minute. Pick the wrong lane and you are done for. The project was behind schedule and over cost, so, sadly, the signs are what they are. Jim
Aha, I missed the location. Now I understand the problem. Lousy signage + confusing lane management +++. Many of those who had to daily-drive through the Mixing Bowl during the decade-long reconstruction process renamed it the Sausage Grinder.
That and downtown Atlanta are the worst interchanges I've ever seen, with the one in DC taking the cake by a large margin! Kudo's to the other drivers for the miss!
I was just in Dallas last week and that whole area north of DFW is a mess with construction. Not sure how we survived!
I live in fairfax not more than 10 miles from where all this is going on. On the first day it opened there were three accidents. The lanes have only been open sense Saturday and the government is trying to change the signs and give people a way out if they make a mistake.
Dude! You have X-ray vision? Sweet! You, I'm being sarcastic  That is the scariest bit of road I've ever seen :eek6:
Nothing to do with the driving or stupidity. It was a logical conclusion based on the girly car. :biggrin5:
Come to the OTHER Washington and drive in rush hour Seattle traffic on a drizzly day. This action would not be considered unusual. Stupid, but typical, sorry to say. The real difference is that a whole bunch of drivers here don't even read the signs... they are playing Nintendo or some such.
