There will be an Auto-X at the Santa Maria, CA Airport on Saturday October 06, 2012. Attached is a flyer on the event. The Auto-X is being put on by the California Central Coast chapter of the Porsche Club of America (PCA). It is at the new track on the Santa Maria Airport grounds. The track was built for the introduction of the 2012 Porsche Carrera to journalists. In March, I attended their first Auto-X on the track and it was fast (3rd gear all the way in my car). This time the track will be a little longer so should be exciting and great fun. Registration just opened for Non-PCA members. PCA is limiting entrants to 50 so register soon. I just registered and was 31 of 50. The Auto-X is geared towards Porsches but other cars can attend. The cost is $55 and here is a link to the registration site: https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.advert/uidEvent/BA5831A5-E013-B145-959EA0FC4FA413B6 After registering you can click the link to see all the other cars attending the event. All non-Porsches are in one class. Here is a link to a video of a lap around the SM Airport Track: Wolf drives new 2012 991 Carrera S (911s) at new US Porsche factory test track incar wow! - YouTube I hope we can get a few Mini Coopers at the Auto-X. Let me know if you have any questions about the event.
I'd be interested in going... I'll talk to ya this weekend and get some more details. Heck who knows, maybe we can get the White M3 and the celebrity driver back for another round... I'll drop a hint to the car owner.
Here is a link to photos, from the PCA Auto-X on 10/06/2012, that I posted on our CCMC Flickr page: 10/06/12: PCA Auto-X - a set on Flickr This was the October 6th 2012 Auto-X run by the California Central Coast Region (CCCR) of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) on the track at the Santa Maria Airport. Two Mini Coopers attended the event. The course was about 0.8 mile long with a 180 hairpin. My top speed was about 70 with around a 45 MPH average. I was the fastest front wheel drive car but still only 14th fastest out of the 53 cars. There were some very fast cars at the event. I had a great time and I continue to learn how to better control my car. If you look at the photos, each photo title defines the year/make/model, car #, and finishing place. For example the title "2004 VW R32_181_1/53" defines a 2004 VW R32 car with race number 181 that finished 1st of 53 cars. Photos are shown fastest to slowest cars.
