Yesterday I passed two CITGO sataions that had a sign saying "still ethanol free". I checked and could not find them listed in the tip tier. Is CITGO really E0? Jim
There's nothing on CITGO's website that says one way or the other, they do say that in certain areas of the country they are required to provide "reformulated gasoline", which has oxygenates in it.....
I checked out their site too, but it did not really say much, other then the safety awards they won. One of the stations is not that far from me, so maybe I'll go there and ask. Jim
I always try to use Shell gas. Last time I checked they advertised at the pump that they don't use ethanol.
What is in gas is very specific to a location. The main reasons what is blended into gas are the environmental laws and the weather conditions. Areas that the EPA says have bad air are required to Oxygenate. The oil companies change the vapor pressure depending on the temperature in a particular area. This is both an environmental issue and making sure your car will start. The other issue with ethanol is the government says the oil companies have to buy a certain amount. You might not get it in your area, but some people are.
I have found that Shell is not Shell is not Shell, so like was said above it must depend on the area. I get better performance on Shell bought in Frederick County, MD, then I do with Shell from Baltimore County, MD and even better from Shell bought way down in Roanoke, VA. The MINI is the first car I have owned in a long time where I can actually tell a deference, being the sensitive little thing that she is. Jim
While I was road tripping to MITM/MTTS ran across several Shell and Conooco stations (when I could not find a Shell) and a couple of them had Ethanol Free. Holy Ocatane Batman what a nice bump in performance!! Around here the Shell Premium is 93 Octane with Ethanol and the the stations I ran across were 91 Octane without the additive. I'll take the 91 without anytime!
Right, the Shell stations I stopped at in Colorado all had 10% ethanol added to their 91 octane......
I think the one Conoco station was in TX and the Shell station was actually in MO (unfortunately not close enough for me to frequent regularly)
Reciently went up to State College, PA and the Shell up there was 10% rather then the 20% down here. I could tell a difference. Too bad we can't make a device that fits inside the filler neck that will filter the ethanol out. Talk about a money maker. Jim
After a week of 91 Octane I finally have good Texas 93 back in the tank. Ran it down as far as I felt comfortable before filling up, took 13.45 gallons.
Puregas.com list all known E0 gas stations. They also have an app for the iPhone. The closest station to me was 50 some miles. Edit: sorry to bring up an old thread, didn't realize the date until after I posted.
