As a life long fan of the mini brand for many, many years, I finally got my first mini in March of 2012. It was a 2009 mini cooper s with 34,000 miles. 3 months after owning it my clutch went out at 38,000 miles. As you all know I had to pay for that being a "wear and tear item". While in the shop the tech heard a noise in the engine and found my timing was going out and at that time they replaced my timing and I had a two year warranty on the part. 8 months later, here I am again, timing went out going down the road and back to the shop it goes. I recieve a call from MAG mini in columbus, ohio and tell me my timing was mistimed by the tech 8 months ago and go on to tell me it blew up my engine and bent my exhaust valves. After that explanation, They give me a quote to have my car fixed for 9,000 dollars. I told them I wasnt paying for something there technician mistimed or any component broken because of this and they said they had to get with mini. I get a call back about 10 days later and asked me for my service records. I told them they were in the glove box and said they had located what they needed. I get another call back a couple of days after that and they ask me when my last oil change was. I said it was shortly after the first timing fiasco because they were trying to get me to pay almost 3 hundred dollars for an oil change after they did the timing(which should have just been part of the timing job for the sole fact they had the engine opened up). To make a long story short, that reciept has come up missing from my service records in my car and are now completely refusing to fix my car. The only good thing about this story is I have the original message stating there tech messed up my timing. BMW and MINI have been nothing but underhanded crooks and I am hoping to become a part of this lawsuit. Does anyone have information on how to become a part of the class action. Thank you.....
First post and you're making public accusations that MAG stole a service record from your car. Interesting!
Welcome to M/A. That is a most interesting first post. MAG can only do what MINI will let them as far as a goodwill fix of your MINI goes. You said it had 34,000 when you bought it. Quite possibly the previous owner either drove the snot out of it or did not take care of it, maybe both. I'm curious to what your service records actually do say. How often did you have your MINI serviced? MAG has been very friendly to our local MINI community. I sure would not call them underhanded crooks as you have. :frown2: I'm very sure there is more to this story.
If its lawsuit based I suggest that you visit North American Motoring. They seem to have a lot of that going on over there with their half empty glass membership!
Welcome, thanks for joining Motoring Alliance, the FUN and Friendly MINI Community. Email Jeffrey A Koncius Esq, at Kiesel & Larson LLP with their year, model, mileage at time of failure, repair bill or supporting details and a description of what happened before and after the event. His email is koncius@kbla.com
First post eh? No "how do you do?" or a little foreplay to soften me up? You just went for it. I feel violated!
Boy you guys are a tough crowd today!- "in the shop the tech heard a noise in the engine and found my timing was going out and at that time they replaced my timing and I had a two year warranty on the part. 8 months later, here I am again, timing went out going down the road and back to the shop it goes. I recieve a call from MAG mini in columbus, ohio and tell me my timing was mistimed by the tech 8 months ago and go on to tell me it blew up my engine and bent my exhaust valves" ASSUMING this is an accurate account of what happened, and leaving out the angry lawsuit talk, the op has a right to be mad and disappointed. IF the crank bolt is not torqued correctly, OR any of the new and required one-time-use bolts fail by not holding thier tension and allowing the timing to change making the exh valve contact the pistons,it should be covered-PERIOD! oil change history has NOTHING to do with this issue!
:cornut:Nathan thank you for that. Now he may come around to our way of seeing things and be a much 'happier camper' in the future,perhaps................ :cornut: As for the rest of the 'Mid Ohio Mafia', it's ashamed y'all should be. I hear and agree with most of what y'all are saying but just a little diplomacy from our 'Fun and Friendly Site' could help this man's state of mind considerably. Dismissing this man out of hand to the 'sewing site' is a disgrace and cowardly act of unthinking desparation and bullying.:eek6::frown2: A new comer..............cut him a little slack...........his MINI is self destructing before his very eyes. Jason
Hey now, cut me a little slack; I posted just to be funny. I'm in a peculiar mood today. I've had issues with MAG before and not just with my mini so this isn't news to me. I just want a little lube first.
I owe no one an apology.rrr: I'd like to hear more about this, but me thinks it was justa to cause a stink & hopefully help the OP's cause. I do hope he posts back with more of what is going on. Nice pot stirring Jason.
I've seen a number of these banzaii posts on several different forums I frequent, absent real facts I tend to regard them with Spock's raised eyebrow. However, I do agree that he should be given a chance to further his case before we try to take his wheels off......so, I'll wait for post #2......if it ever happens. I will say that the tone, verbiage, syntax, lack of capitalization and punctuation is exactly how all of these read on the other forums too.
Add to that the post was at 3AM just after the bars close and I'm still skeptical. Apology....I don't think so.
Jason, the problem is that there are some questionable facts in the OP's story. I was buying into it until I read the part about MAG trying to charge him $300 for an oil change! Like other's have mentioned, we have a pretty good relationship with the service department (some have had some issues, but for the most part I think it is good). Hopefully the OP will come back and give us more details of what has gone down. Until then I'm going to go back to running my high cholesterol donut speakeasy.
How did I end up on NAM? Some dud shows up pissed and we start eating our own. :biggrin5: :biggrin5: If your dealer is pulling your chain call Mini NA. they will take care of you. As for the rest of us lets argue about what matters.... Why the R53 is MINI's finest model! :cornut:
No follow up post? It probably is because of the whole story not being told....3 quarts of oil low when brought in, non OEM oil filter, 15,000 miles since the last oil change.
This does not look like anything to me but a forum Troll posting. By continuing to debate this in any way all you are doing is feeding the troll and causing him/her to laugh at your comments. I will be glad to apologize if proven wrong but I highly doubt it.
