Anyone planning on bringing their Classic Mini to the dragon? I am hoping this is the year i can do it. I am transferring back east to mississippi and hoping this is time i can bring her. Oh and i wont be towing her i mean driving to and from the dragon.

She still needs a bit of work before she is ready but i am confident (knock on wood) i can pull it off.

This year's Classic Minis United event is in Cherokee, NC - just around the corner from the Dragon.

    Here's a link.....

Peace Love Mini - Classic Minis United, Mini 56

100 or so classics terrorizing North Carolina, what could be more fun! :biggrin5:

And I plan to drive my Classic too - it's already done Baltimore to KC, been all over the Southeastern Missouri Ozarks and the northwestern Arkansas hills, so what's a short hop over to North Carolina?

They're cars, they were meant to be driven - that's my feeling......

Yellowbritishrocket, what do you need to do to it to get it ready for some longish road trips?

the rear trailing arms have to be yanked out and refreshed...new bushings...new shocks all around then a few annoying oil leaks have to be addressed plus i have a cam kit i need to get fitted along with a set of roller rockers...the problem with the passenger side rear trailing arm is the hub bolt seized then stripped so it has to be removed then the old bolt pressed out and a new one pressed back in...

plus i have a KAD rear sway bar that i have to get fitted too

I've made the Fresno/Sandy Eggo trip many times, I used to live in SD and my folks in the Fresberg - I know the areas very well! Are you at NAS Lemore?

When I worked for the Porsche dealer in Fresno I sold a bunch of 944s into a squadron there....

I'm going to pull my rear subframe and paint it, clean up all the suspension bits and have the tank sealed, that should just about be everything mechanical on Buzz that I've rebuilt, painted or repaired!

I've been trying to engineer a rear swaybar too, I've seen all the kits and they're all expensive for no more that they are - the Clubman is a little more difficult to do as it has the exhaust exit right in the place where the sway goes, and the fuel tank goes all the way across the back of the car so you can't do a center exhaust or anything. It will take some thought and engineering.......

Maybe you could come a week early and do Mini 56, then head over to the Dragon the following weekend?

Yep i am at NAS Lemoore.

Lol im not suprised you sold porsche's to squadrons at lemoore, lol fighter pilots love them some speed machines...

from what ive seem its simply a bar that bolts to the back of the rear subframe then mounts to the bolts on the back of the drum backing plate...

Yes all the ones I've seen look like that too, but I think my exhaust will interfere on the left side - I'm still studying the situation......

Yes the Lieutenants were scarfing up 944's in '83 when they first hit the roads.....I think I sold 18 into one squad. They arranged them on the flight deck with a couple of their fighter planes behind for a pic that was supposed to appear in the base paper, but the commander quashed it - said it didn't send the right "image" to the general public that all those pilots could afford expensive German sports cars or some such nonsense......

Yes... I can shoot you a pic or two. With the design of the bar mounting to the rear of the subframe, it did in fact interfere with the tail pipe and a custom modification had to be made... Give me a couple of days to look for some photos and I will send them.
