Hey. I've got a metallic clicking sound coming from the rear. Goes up and down with wheel rpm and is most noticeable at lower speeds. It goes away when I apply brake pressure, even very light. Seems to be getting worse over time.

    Thoughts?

Have you or somone else changed the rear pads recently?

Most likely, the rear pads are not installed correctly. There are some wire clips on the pad that goes next to the piston, those clips slip over the rim of the piston, into the groove.

LOL....didn't I just go thru this very same thing!

Yep, check the clips on the rear inside pads. Mine came off after bedding in the brakes.

Thanks. I'll check the pads. These have about 25k on them, but could be that a clip has come loose.

Yup, broken clip on one pad. Since the same guy installed them, no charge to replace it. Jacques at Bay Bridge Motors is the coolest.

I am having a similar problem. However the noise speeds up, when I apply the breaks.

I did the EBC Sport rotors and Greenstuff pads. Any thoughts?

Are you saying that you already checked the rear pads to see if the clips were installed correctly on the piston and you think it's something else?

I haven't checked the pads...the guy who did the work is trying to tell me it's the cut of the rotors...

But unlike the original post, the clicking speeds up when the breaks are applied.

It's the pad clips. That or your installer stuck some playing cards in there. :D

That's exactly how I descried it to him, playing cards...

But I'll check the clips or make him do it...lol

The clips loose, would make the clicking faster when reals are being applied?

wheel bearings sound like that when they go, and obviously noises will go with speed. BUT if it stops with brakes it should be the brakes lol

I really don't think it's a bearing, cause it started after the break change.

Did you use slotted rotors on the rear?

If not, what kind of shape are the rear rotor's in? If they're not worn badly it's the pad clips.

It's possible to get noise from them during wear-in of the pads, but if you have standard rotors, it's the pad clips.

I got EBC Slotted sport rotors and free stuff pads-both new.

I have been driving on them for about 2weeks and have bedded them...

It is either the pads not clipped in correctly of if you have slotted rotors it could be the sound they are making. My slotted rotors are silent.Worth a look...

I've never heard a wheel bearing make that kind of noise.

There was an issue at one time with the webspoke wheels causing a clicking noise.

I did a custom powdercoating of the centers of my Webspokes and when I reassembled (loc-tite and proper torque) the clicking never came back.

    I don't have those rims.

Also it never happened before the break change...it's got to be bad clips...I'm going to take the rear tire off and see if I can't see anything..(don't have the caliper tool)

You shouldn't need the caliper tool, it's only the one pad on each side. I don't know that you can tell just by taking the wheel off - you might.....

And Andrew, fix your brakes, not your breaks, OK?
