I have a friend with a classic, however it's the newer style clutch insted of the old ones I was used too.

His is making a loud ticking noise, but after taking it apart I can't find anything wrong with it. I have not heard it run yet, so I'm getting the info from him - but he said it was quite loud and followed engine RPM. I don't know if it changed when he put the clutch in or not.....

We're going to look at it again this weekend, can anyone think of anything in particular I should look for? Like I said, he had it out once before and I looked both the disc and press plate over thoroughly without finding anything untoward, and the release bearing was quiet and smooth too.

I'm wondering if he's got a bad intermediate gear and it just sounds like it's coming from the clutch? We didn't pull the end cover off to look at the gears.

Anyone know how much end play the crank is supposed to have?

Open to any/all ideas here to get his car back on the road....
