I drive a 2004 base model 5 speed. the last couple days ive been having trouble getting my mini into gear when i first start driving. i thought this was due to the cold weather, but im pretty sure i was wrong. i went drove around all day, then i went into a store. when i came out i got in my car drove about 30 feet and i heard a winding noise, kinda sounded like a grinding sound. so i stopped right away, put the car in neutral and i heard it when i pressed on the clutch, i think it was the throw out bearing giving way, that would explain why i couldnt really get it into gear like normal. its weard because the clutch has never slipped. so i called a roll back and towed it to my shop. ordered a clutch from the net. has anyone attempted to do this clutch before? i work as a lube tech for chrysler, im going through tech school to become a full time tech. i dont have the money to pay mag to do this, my buddy that works with me knows alot more about cars offered his help. can this be done in one evening ? with full shop lifts etc..........
Check your clutch master and slave cylinders (leaks / failure) before you waste money and time on a new clutch. How many miles are on your car ?
Its a job that I think pays 8 hours book rate. It can be done in an evening, the lift and access to air tools will make it a heck of a lot easier. To help diagnose some... When pressing down the clutch pedal near the end does it fee, "crunchy"? Does the pedal come back up off the floor when depressed?
Can get helpful info. on YOUTUBE sometimes. I always consult the old Youtube University before setting out on a project.
