I wanted to ask the forum, has anyone done any mods to the cooling fans, successfully on an R53 or any models for that matter.
Has anyone bypassed the system with temp sensors & switches ?
I am going to do some research, but if someone could short cut it all that would be great. I look forward to the feedback & info

You can adjust the fan via a tune

The real question is why do you want to mod the fan?

2002 R53. All my fans stock and aftermarket are controlled by my personal preference. The one part making most of the task easy was this fan controller which you can get at Summit Racing or Jegs for under $100.

But a good question Way asked is why would you want to?

In my case I am just weird and eccentric, and a control freak!!!!

Seriously unless you have some mod or mods requiring specific changes in the operation of the stock fan there really is not reason to change it?

5 fans, oil cooler, header, intake, power steering and radiator. All are separated from the ECU/stock control.

The reason for looking into fan mods or upgrades is that I do not really want to shell out 300-400 everytime the fan fails. Right now I am on my 2nd fan & looking for a 3rd ,as this one is not functioning correctly. Oh & who sells a fan at the most reasonable price, I need a new one.

If you are on your third fan unit than you have another issue elsewhere that needs to be diagnosed before you keep replacing failed fans. The TSB's (BMW/MINI Technical Service Bulletins) on fan replaced is average across the board so yours is a bit unusual?

I second the request for reasonable pricing on fans. The 1st stage on my radiator fan no longer works, and I was told $770+ by the dealer to replace. I'm sure a good chunk of that is labor. If I can avoid that cost, I feel that I come out ahead.

If you're talking about the power steering fan, you should look into the late model air channel for the R52/R53. Look up part number 51757201453 on RealOEM.com.
