R53 Cooper S 2002 single OHC coolant presure Fault. after running engine for a few minuets the cooling system creates a very high pressure, But the temp gauge registers in middle i.e normal temp does any one have any ideas engine running smoth except on start up ja bit lumpy. Could it be head gasket????

    Maybe check your radiator cap.

Could be the sign of the water pump or T-stat on its way out.

I would not trust the gauge, it only shows, cold, normalish and overheating. I'd connect something that gives you an actual temp read out to see if it getting to hot or not.

Possible causes are a thermostat not fully opening. When was the last time that was checked or changed. Has the cooling system been flushed recently, there could be a blockage from something being dislodged.

+1 on the above. Or the cooling fan is cooked. Stock cap is just rated 16psi. Normal operating temps & pressures seldom vent thru the cap.
