After nearly seven years of anticipating the dipstick to break every time I checked the oil, today instinct aka common sense prevailed and I ordered a Cravenspeed dipstick. Figured the cost of the dipstick far out weighed the hassle and expense of trying to retrieve the broken remains either through the tube or dropping the oil pan. Tis a shame that a more durable design was not implemented from day one. I will truly look forward to the elimination of my cringe factor associated with every oil level check.

Received it promptly yesterday- thank you- and am amazed at the ease of travel down the oil tube and readability. Should have done this a long long time ago! If there are any R53 owners out there who plan on a long term ownership, the Craven dipstick is well worth the investment for the peace of mind. I didn't relish the vision of leaning over the engine compartment with half a dipstick in my hand. I truly will not miss the grimace associated with something as simple as checking the oil.

MINI doesn't want you to anywho. Just buy a new MINI when the old one grinds to a halt.

I believe new BMW's do not even have a dipstick, hows that for progress? :eek:ut:

Just opened my piggy bank yesterday. I have finally figured out just what it is I like about CravenSpeed. They build better mouse traps!

Next time mine breaks or rather when it starts to break. :fingerscrossed: I'll be buying one of Craven's oil pokers. :biggrin5:

I did the same-- finally decided to spend the money and replace with the craven speed before i have issues. 125,000+ miles, no issues pulling it out and reinserting, but I guess you never know when the break will happen. havent received the replacement yet, but will post an informal review once it arrives (some time this week)

I've had mine for months and love it. It's nice to be worry free and be able to read the oil level easily each and every time. Awesome product!

Just got a 2013 X5 and it does not have a dipstick. They have made it so that there is no reason to open the hood, except to clean the plastic engine cover. I am not sure I trust the electronics yet, but it is the way BMW built it,

Oh wow, I do hate that. My wife's Boxster S has the electronic readout for oil level, but I still check it the old fashion way every week or so....I hate trusting silicon and transitors for something as critical as the oil level...

We have not even received our CMJCW yet and I ordered the Cravenspeed dipstick based on everything I read. I think it's insanely expensive, but I should only have to buy it once...

One way to recover the expense is to replace it with the oem dipstick when you part company and sell it online. Priced right, I am sure you would recover more than fifty per cent of the investment.
