You'll see some changes!!! the Tennessee Department of Transportation has determined that vehicles over 30 feet in length will no longer be allowed to utilize a mountainous section of US 129 (SR 115) in Blount County, known as “The Dragon.†https://news.tn.gov/node/13281
The Tennessee Department of Transportation is building one of these.... but to measure semi's at the trail head.... Should fix the problem for sure....:biggrin5:
Well this sucks!!! I just live for the thrill of rounding a corner and having a truck blocking the road. What next? Harley riders that move over? I hope not!!
What's wrong with Harley's? Some of those sport bikes won't move over either. I guess next it'll be Minis that aren't GPs cause some Minis won't pull over and you can't catch the GPIIs. LOL:devil:
Never had a sport bike hold me up, but have had plenty of Hardly-Ableson's play road hog. Not only on the dragon, but most everywhere I encounter them. I know it's not all of them & you wouldn't behave that way. Maybe you can help educate them. Don't care for MINI's who won't move over either. :biggrin5:
It's not all HD bikers just the big fat rednecks with the huge Harly RV's blasting the Allman Brothers "Amy" all the way from one end of the Dragon to other end never going over 15 MPH that kills me. I pull over for sport bikes and they fly by, but I have never had a MINI come up behind me that I was holding up.
I can see it now.......a sign at the side of the road saying "If you are taller than this line, you can't play"
A height restriction bar would actually work... Set it a 9 feet, so any normal car or pickup will clear it, but anything bigger wont.
No the Beer trucks would not get to Fontana to restock the bar. :ihih: Also tow trucks, flatbeds w/ crashed cars and other tall vehicles need to be able to use the road.
I've been to MOTD six times and MSSD twice and from my experience the majority of Harley riders will not pull over for you. And I have never been held up by a sport bike. If someone faster comes up behind me I will always pull over at the first safe spot.
Yeah those MOTD Harley riders love to say "Share the road" but they never do. It works both ways a-holes. :incazzato:
A few years ago on my way to MITM I was in Thompson Canyon E of Estes Park on an uphill section where there were 2 lanes going W and 4 HD Hogs were riding abreast! Significant horn usage got them into 1 lane.
They could make it open like a gate, and make local LEO escort the bigger stuff... Still does nothing for the bag draggin motorcycles, but at least people have sense enough around there not to clog it up with pedal bikes.
