So, I’m hoping to get to clean up the old carbon fiber covers that the clear is now failing on. By that I mean remove them and put new covers on to clean up the GP. Since I didn’t install them, I’m assuming they are stuck on with 3m (or similar) tape. Any ideas on the best way to remove them without damaging the paint (if it isn’t already)? My initial guess is to, pull on it a little and if required use a heat gun to loosen them up. Personally not a real fan of putting a heat gun near the paint. Thoughts?
Your plan is good just protect the paint with a cloth covered in Reynolds wrap to deflect the heat away from the paint. The cloth will stop the aluminum foil from scratching your paint. Also you will not need much heat as most cover only use a thin 3 inch strip of double sided tape in the middle our part of the cover.
I would have done Dave.0's plan. If you live in a warm environment, you could park the car outside on a hot summer's day in the sun and let Mother Nature do her thing... then try prying it away.
Cool - thanks everyone. Not warm enough here yet to for the sun to heat it.. so heat gun with Alum foil it will be... once they get in.
