Yep - the ONLY legal wheel-to-wheel racing competition at MOTD is BACK for YEAR SIX!

This is the official thread for Dragon Draggin, with updates, rule interpretations, and an optional "modified" class that allows pretty much anything 10 ounces or under that doesn't combust or otherwise create a major safety hazard... as long as it sports a Mini theme, you're IN!

We are limiting the event to 60 entrants, there will be prizes 3 deep (1st, 2nd, 3rd) for the Beauty Contest as well as the Speed contest, and only ONE prize for the fastest in the "Modified" class (7 total trophies). I have the raw materials and the trophies will be crafted before the winter ends. Expect no dried flowers but other than that, there's no limit to the trophy creativity...

If there's interest, we will bump the registration to 75 cars, but y'all have to promise to behave yourselves! Car kits will be shipped in two batches, one batch around Feb 28th and the rest weekly as registrations come in.

The rules follow basic Pinewood Derby rules, and are posted on the MOTD website. The one modification: The cars must be MINIS. One additional requirement: this track has a bottom-drag brake at the end - do NOT put weights under the car, it MUST be smooth and at least 3/8" clearance or it will not run.

The rules for the MODIFIED class are below. While creative rule interpretation in THIS class is appreciated (actually encouraged), as in all rules for this Event, the ruling of the Organizers will be final. Colin's ruling, however, may be influenced by a nice set of racing seats, and mine by a sweet set of 17" wheels. No guarantees on that, however... We will be placing the safety of the crowd, competitors and their vehicles as paramount.

While we will accept any number of Modified class entries up to about a diozen, there will only be ONE winner in the Modified class. ALL cars, however, are eligible for the "Beauty Contest".

I will answer interpretation-type questions privately via email or PM, not sharing your ideas or questions with other competitors unless a public clarification is absolutely necessary, or for safety reasons. I am also not competing in the races and won't steal your ideas.

    RULES (MODIFIED CLASS)
    1. NO INCENDIARY DEVICES! No combustible or flammable devices of any kind.

    2. No devices that would endanger the safety or well-being of the crowd, fellow competitors, competing cars, the track, attract local law enforcement, violate HomeLand Security procedures, or offend Joan Rivers. The Judges ruling on this is FINAL.

    3. No devices that would in any way impede the progress of fellow competitors, and nothing that would create a mess. that means no water balloons, among other things. (PLEASE! It's hard enough to clean up as it is!)

    4. Weight is a maximum 10 ounces to avoid damage to the track, officials, spectators, or stopping devices.

    5. No nuclear reactors or fissionable material, no operational Flux Capacitors, no antigravity spray, no ignitors, no flame, no fire, no heat above 120 degrees, no anything that can harm the launching or safety personnel. No hazardous materials, no hallucinogenics, no drunk driving, no driving while medicated, no water cannons. Don't even think of it. And eat all your vegetables. Yes, that means you.

    6. All parts of the vehicle must cross the finish line. No parts of the OWNER or SPECTATORS may cross the finish line. The time will be determined by the first part that trips the timing device

    7. Any number of wheels can touch the track. (at least one, please, and we will enforce that, as there is also a "no fly zone" for the purposes of this event!). Axles and wheels are "free" (no limits) but must keep the car in control and not harm the track, competitors, or personnel. No circular razor blades.

    8. Length 7" max, width 2 3/4" max, height 3" max (a little over is OK, but if you don't clear the finish line gate don't friggin' come crying to me), no less than 3/8" bottom clearance

    GOOD LUCK, ALL!

The official Draggin' Dragon's track is packed, wrapped and ready to be transported again down to Fontana. Want to thank Pack 3180 for donating it again this year! Wonder what we will do next year when I am no longer the Cubmaster?

Leon, why have we never put the "Hot Wheels" loop in this track? Maybe next year!

Who says we haven't put a HotWheels Loop in? Perhaps some twists and turns?

    Wait and see...
