The Central Coast Mini Coopers (CCMC) January 2011 event will be on Saturday 01/22/11. We are driving to Parkfield, CA "The Earthquake Capitol of the World". We will be doing a drive from Orcutt, CA up Hwy 101 with stops in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles to gather people. We will continue up Hwy 101 to San Miguel where we will head east to Parkfield, CA the "Earthquate Capital of the World" for lunch at the Grill (The V6 Grill Restaurant : Parkfield, California). After lunch we will head over to Hwy 46 for a quick stop at the James Dean Memorial. Then over to Creston for a fun drive across Hwy 229 to Santa Margarita. Hwy 229 is a great Mini Cooper road with many tight turns and elevation changes. We will eventually make it back down Hwy 101 to our homes. I plan this to be a passenger friendly drive (i.e., not too fast but sometimes I cannot help myself especially on Hwy 229). All Mini Coopers are welcome, not just CCMC club members. Here is the basic plan: 9:10 Orcutt Starting Point: Gather at CVS Paking Lot (Behind Union 76 station) in Orcutt. Corner of Clark & Bradley. There is a car show there on Saturday mornings. 9:50 San Luis Obispo Starting Point: Gather at Coast BMW at 12100 Los Osos Valley Road. 10:00 Drivers Meeting 10:40 Stop in Paso Robles to gather additional people: Stop at the Jack in the Box, 1900 Ramada Dr. 11:45 Stop at San Andreas Fault 12:00 Stop for lunch at the Grill in Parkfield, CA. 1:30 Leave Parkfield 2:00 Stop at James Dean Memorial on Hwy 46. 3:15 Hwy 229 3:40 Back in San Luis Obispo 4:15 Back in Orcutt I will provide detailed route instructions at the Driver’s Meeting. Please RSVP by posting here, sending me an email at [email protected], or clicking the RSVP on the CCMC calendar to let me know if you plan to attend the event so I can plan accordingly.
As a former resident of both Monterey and Novato in my pre-MINI days, your event announcement has me pining for the awesome roads you've identified. So please permit this outsider to perform the service of bumping your thread, as you've planned a wonderful drive that should not be missed by the locals. OBTW, I seem to remember Hollister claiming to be the "earthquake capital". Perhaps that was in a different geological era.
It should be a rock'n time. It would be cool if we had a little earthquake while there. The Grill has branding irons hanging from the ceiling that should be great to see and hear during a quake.
Great Day, Great drive. Thanks to Mike and all the new members of CCMC that Julie and I met today. Mike again picked some great roads for the driving enthusiast.
Another beautiful drive on the Central Coast of California. Thank you to the 8 Minis and 1 Miata that joined our CCMC drive to Parkfield. It was a great day. I posted a few photos from Gordon and I on our CCMC Flickr page. Here is the link. CCMC_Club's photosets on Flickr Click on the Parkfield set.
