A MINI is totaled in a three car accident with no engines running and no drivers. John Kelly is local historian and writer who memorializes his wife's pride and joy in this morning's Washington Post. When momentum meets Mini, bad things happen - The Washington Post
Bummer! The writer says "was it an accident if not one was in the cars and engines not running"? Of course it was ,the only true accident, all the other are crashes and have reasons behind them.....
Actually it was still a crash, there is a reason behind this. The Honda owner did not set the parking brake properly. Crashes are human error, accidents are force majeure.
I've seen that MINI, recognize the vanity tag. I remember wondering "why A MINI?" I understand now. I got the same questions in "02 when mine was new. One guy got out of his car 3 places behind me at a red light to run up, knock on my window and ask "What kind of car is that? Who makes it?" He barely finished asking before the light changed so I yelled answers out my window while he ran back to his car. I feel sorry for them. They do have 10 years of mostly good memories but it's always sad to have to remember a cruel end to an otherwise happy story.
I cringe everytime I read an article like this one........there is no way to replace our 1st gen cars.
^^^ Sure there is. Search a bit, first gen cars are out there for sale. As time goes by it will get harder to find them though.
Dave, Dave, Dave... When Onramp nearly got totaled by some wild man in a road rage, I was beside myself. What would I buy? Could I find another 06? I just can't see me in a Gen 2 car - there are a LOT of differences. Turbo's don't whine but rather whistle. The Gen 2 car is heavier looking. The speedo is something I've never warmed up to, and I have the chrono pack on the 06. Nope - I have to respectfully disagree. Not the same. Pat
Classic minis are legendary. Everyone on the planet earth knows a classic mini when they see one. Just like a classic VW beetle or a classic Jeep. 1st Gen MINI's are retro cool. They showed and paid homage to the original classic Mini. 2nd Gen MINI's are ......well how so I say it..... Not unique, way too big and lack the "mini" character that made the 1st Gens and instant hit. 2nd Gen Minis are to the original mini what the current VW Beetle is to the original beetle. UGLY
Criminey! The series one MINIs and the series two MINIs look almost the same! The series two MINIs weigh less though!rrr: Dave
I love classical and 1st gen MINIs, too, but my point to the post was to lament the loss of a truly beloved to a freakish accident, I mean crash. By the way Dave.O, do you still use semaphore flags, or is it ugly land lines. Just kidding. I appreciate your passion!
Dave uses a telegraph. The difficulty on my end is having software in place that translates Morse Code to sarcasm and disdain.
I'm sorry, but my first MINI was an '03 Justa. Nugget was Solid Gold Metallic I traded him in for an '09 S...... Nugget, with his "lacking hp" and old body just had it all over the new MINI... he had so much more personality, he handled way better and I just liked the looks of him better. Ultimately I ended up with another Gen 1. Those that drove both get it.
I had an '04 R53 MCS....nice car, then an '09 R56 JCW...fun car, now a 11 CMS...family truckster, and a '12 JCW Coupe....my absolute favorite so far. To me it's not whether it's a Gen 1 a Gen 2 or one of the expanded MINI models, it's the friendships, fun, and awesome experiences that I have forged as a result of all MINI's and their owners.....thank-you everyone!
