MINI USA is rolling out its first special edition Countryman shortly and will use what BMW calls “Frozen” or matte paint. The special edition will be called “The Black Knight Edition” and will be limited to only 60 units. Some MINI owners should be getting an email later today which instruct how to reserve and […] (visit MotoringFile for the full article) More...
Real matte paint is not that easy... Or easy to take care of for that matter. Even though the pics arent working for me right now... I can imagine... And a matte black with gloss red and white accents JCW Countryman could look sweet.
I'm sure it will look great, but will be extremely pricey because of it being such a limited edition! As far as using plasti-dip, a friend of mine had looked into having his whole car done. I think he was quoted around $600. He also looked at buying a kit from https://www.dipyourcar.com/.
Thats ridiculous! For paint... 1 Gallon of industrial flat black single stage coating = $60 + 1 Quart of 2K poly hardener = $40 2 gallons of Acetone for cleanup = $40 Masking supplies = $60 Prep supplies if no or minor body work = $50 Thats $250.00 in material costs... I will paint his car flat black for $600!
From what I have been told by a top end detailer friend is those cars with matte finish are terrible to keep looking good. Scratch one & it is a repaint, no buffing it out.
The insurance data in Britain says black cars have about 10% more accidents than other colours and in addition their accidents are more severe. Matt black will enable those owners to achieve better than that 10%, I'm thinking....
I just came back from MSSD and there was a guy there who plasti-diped his CM. He owns a paint shop somewhere in the Wash. DC area. Anyway it looked good with black wheels and tint. He told someone that he would do their car (hard top) for I think $500-$550.
If anyone is interested MINI dropped the Press Release today. They also included 12 High Resolution Photos. You can find them here. Obligatory image to break up the text. The Press Release that you'll be seeing on dozen of automotive sites for the next few days as their wags rewrite the copy to seem original. Now back to the proper way to hold a MINI in preparation for plasti-dip
Umm... Dude thats a Paceman... Wheres the Countryman this is supposed to be about? Hey Nathan have you shipped my new car out yet? Cant believe you only wanted $1.29 for it.
Don't blame me for MotoringFile saying Countryman when it is both according the Press Release. As to the new car being shipped to you. Umm - you have yet to make payment. I only take the equivalent of $1.29 US in Zairian Dollars.
Yes, I have an address. Please, only small denomination Zairian Dollars, 1's and 5's please. How you mix that $1,188,554 ZD's doesn't matter to me.
