Ok I am soliciting input on your favorite Stainless Steel Brake lines. Here we will define favorite as "most reliable". Thanks.
Had Goodridge SS brake lines on my Mini for over six years and many a track day with not one single failure. 2cents
I'm with Mark on this one, had mine on the car now 2007 with many a track day. You were there too Terry when the wheel broke and rubbed on the line, left a mark but no failures.
That was a memorable excursion you had there. :^) The reason why I am shopping for "most reliable" is that I had a brake line fail on track this past weekend and it made me less than happy. I was able to get back in without incident but it was not fun. It is hard to see in this pic, but the line just popped off right above the crimp that connects the banjo fitting. I was able to get a replacement made-up, but now I question the remaining lines and so I am looking for a new and more reliable set.
^^^ who made the brake line that failed? I've been using the ones Detroit Tuned sells. They have been on my MINI for about 110,000 miles.
check out our brake lines, been using them for years with no failure. Ours are also the mandated brake lines used on the Bspec race MINIs Stainless Steel Brake Lines (R50-R53) - Way Motor Works We use factory style ends so they fit perfect. I've never liked the goodridge as they don't fit as well in the body mounts and always seem to need grinding.
Goodridge's fit perfectly on mine with absolutely no modification. Just bolted them on and bled the system!!
So, do you get yours made-up locally, or do they have a manufacturer? Also, the Goodridge lines say this... "Goodridge brake lines are designed, not only to US DOT standards, but to the extremely strict German TUV specifications. All Goodridge stainless steel brake lines must undergo a nine-point quality inspection including being tested to 3000 psi prior to release." Does this also apply to your lines? Thanks
I have Goodrich lines on my Miata. Over the 13 years they have been on there all is good. The lines I bought from Detroit Tuned also use the proper ends for the MINI. Not sure who actually makes them. You might call Chad & ask him. Detroit Tuned MINI Cooper Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Goodridge #1 For anything else make sure your car insurance is up to date. Brakes are nothing to play around with. Going fast is the easy part, but the stopping part is much more important.
I'm sure there are other lines that work as well, but I'm not sure what they are. I know the lines I bought from Chad are good, but don't know the maker. Hope you are wrong Dave & I'm not doomed.
True, I have 949 Racing's brake lines on the Mazdaspeed... I was getting something else from them and said what the hey and added them to the order....
I went with Stoptech*, mainly because they were easy to find from major retailers(Tirerack, Amazon, etc etc) and fronts and rears could be purchased separately. Appears to be also sold under the Centric/Powerslot brands as well.
We have our lines made for us. The most important thing is the bushing that clips the line to the shock. Goodridge using a ho hum bushing and it lets the line move all around. We use OE parts with the stainless steel line to make our kit. We have never had a part failure. Brake Lines
