My 02 mini has recently began spinning when i have tried to release the clutch and give it gas. It acts as if its in neutral and revs up, and i am able to shift through the gears. The reverse acts like it works, but it works for like 2 secs and it backs a loud noise and stops going. Its currently sitting at a shop because i replaced the whole clutch, and that they think it is something in the transmission, but i have had people tell me it could be shifter cables? Any ideas?
When in gear and the clutch is released the engine revs and the car does not move? If so it sounds as if the pressure plate is not contacting the clutch plate properly. Welcome to Motoring Alliance too...
I just replaced the pressure plate. Do you think i would need a whole new tranny? or just a part? They didnt see and huge metal chunks in it, just a few "shavings"
It's possible your new clutch disc broke too.....only way to know is to take it out and look at it..... Did you get your parts from MINI or somewhere else? If they saw shavings in the tranny oil, it's possible it's broken, if it is you need a new (or used)one as I don't think you can buy parts for them.
I got the clutch from a clutch shop, it was brand new. When the car is lifted off the ground, the tires will spin, but on the ground they will not. We are going to take the slave cylinder off again to make sure it is not froze. We dont think it is the shifter cables, because the clutch is moving. Im just really nervous about spending a ton of money on a new transmisson, and finding out it could possibly be a small(er) fix.
