Has any one tried Bosch 34lb/hr @ 3bar injectors? Based on all the calculations i could find they would flow at about ~380cc at 3.5bar fuel pressure. An article on injector selection from ford racing seemed to be the best source. Considering they are the newer ev6/ev14 tech with the proper spray pattern and are a good bit cheaper it may be worth a shot. -Jonathan
If they are only 380's they are too small for me. 450's or 550's scaled correctly would be much better.
If i did it I would source them from a bosh racing supplier and not ebay. Of course the JCW would be easiest. I simply wanted to know if anyone had tried. I know bigger injectors with a tune are are good but i dont want a tune. The 34lb injectors from Bosch are the same newer generation as the 550cc all the tuners work with. -Jonathan
380's with a 15% pulley, cat back and CAI has proven time and time that it works. Larger than that and a tune is called for.
I thought a tune was called for. The factory R53, with about the same parts got one. I read somewhere that without a tune the injectors were a waste of money & fuel. Wish I could remember where I read that. Maybe one of our tuners can chime in & give us the skinny on this.
The stock tune can adjust to the 380's, but to get the full advantage of them and the rest of the parts a tune would be needed to optimize them. I ran the 380's w/o a tune for about 4 months till my tune with no issues.
I ran jcw380's no tune for a bit.... The computer will use the longterm fuel trims to adjust fuel flows for cruise, and light accleration with info from the o2 sensor....but will run using the maps WOT. with a 17% and jcw380's, the car ran good, no power loss like some compain about from being ivetly rich with 15% and JCW 380's.... But post tune, car did run better, and gained more power. The AFR'S with the 17% and JCW's wern't perfect, but were actually pretty good wot according to jan, but he prefers to tune 15% cause they often make more power at the topend....but as a daily driver, the 17% is perfect for my style. Back to the op's...pretty sure you will need to get adaptors to plug into the harness, and check the spraypattern ....stock/JCW is a "dual cone" spray...imo just pay the $$ and get jcw ones...they are proven, fit fine....and a tune WILL make the change even more costeffective.
i figured ti would use the jcw210 flash with the larger injectors. It is inexpensive and gives mild gains. [new flow = old flow*sqrt(new pressure/old pressure)] 357cc @ 43.5psi 383cc @ 50psi 386cc @ 51psi 390cc @ 52psi I have seen mini fuel pressure rated a couple of ways 3.5bar and 52psi max. has anyone actually measured it versus manifold pressure? I would expect that the ecu allows for some fuel pressure variation +/- 3.5bar so i don't see ~2.5% being huge. Especially considering the 380cc (+10%) work on the stock tune. If i were to try the bosch injectors i would invest the $20 and have one flow tested at the correct pressure to be sure. -Jonathan
Injectors are sold as both high and low impedance... not sure which ones the gen1 mini has, but the voltages, etc specs must be around. Since electronics and electrical parts are usually a no return item, i would be 100% sure they match up with the mini specs before spending $$ on then....and that they will PHYSICALLY FIT LENGTHWISE under the ic....AND you can get the adaptor harness you need..... Shops that have done all this work then usually sell them.....a few shops were selling compatible injectirs for a bit, but they seem to have mostly stopped.
One more tip....the jcw flash is for a PORTED head....not much, but still done....with different pulley size than you run...so not a perfect solution....a canned tune from waymotorworks or another 3rd party will likly get you better bang for the $$$.
Question: What benefit, if any, would JCW 380 injectors provide? I understand they are "plug and Play." 2006 R52 with Madness Performance II package Including (15% pulley, CAI, Evotech ECU tune, DOS Copper Intercooler, and Borla Street CatBack). Car runs great - never had a "code" but more power is always welcome. Madness says stock injectors do everything needed for street and that there is NO BENEFIT from JCW 380's. Can anyone comment whether the power curve would be different from 2,000 to 6,800 RPM under Sprited street driving? Anybody dyno before and after? Thanks!
The thing you will notice the most is more low end torque. From the list of mods you have I would suggest a new tune, be it a JCW tune or a canned tune you will see improvement.
Yea, that Evo tune is worthless. Lots of evidence that it really doesn't do anything to the fuel trims.
