Hello all. My first post here. I bought my current MINI, a GP II on 11/20/13 from Princeton MINI. Pictures coming soon but they all look alike... Previously i owned a 2009 JCW, purchased new in Oct. 2008. It was a beautiful car, and i did some nice cosmetic mods such as carbon fiber hood scoop and boot handle, JCW suspension, JCW steering wheel, huper optik window tint, cocoa mats, custom shift knob. custom side stripes that i designed and made. I loved the car and cared for it "obsessively". It only had 35,800 miles on it. In November of 2012 i was taking the car in for an oil change and was sitting in stop and go traffic on the interstate just 1 mile from my exit when i was rearended by a 18 wheeler Coke truck (and i even drink Coke - at least it could have been a Pepsi truck). The car was within a few dollars of being totalled but because it was the top model with low mileage, they fixed it. It took the body shop 4 months to fix the car and i really missed the car. It turns out that the car had frame damage and they had to replace the frame rail. I was really disappointed. I finally got the car back in March of 2013. It still drove well but occasionally had a occasional noise that i don't remember being there before the accident. Last week i took it in for service for the timing chain tensioner recall, and a few other minor things. They had GP II 0047 still on the showroom floor and i decided to buy it. I so hated to see the JCW go but i was afraid of what may eventually come as a result of the accident. I'm an old guy (67) much more concerned about things like this than when i was young and indestructable... I love the MINI brand. My wife and i did some drives with Philly MINI, went to MINIs on the Dragon in 2011 and MINI Takes the States in 2010. We are currently planning to go to MOTD 2014 if we can find lodging (a room for 2) at Fontana Village. We are on the waiting list right now. I waited to long to call. Thanks for listening. Steve
Welcome to M/A Hindsight says yep they should have totaled it. Bet with the extra things they found it would have met the total threshold. Sorry that happened to you. Good luck with the new GP II. Maybe I'll see you at the dragon.
A sad story that ends happy! Welcome to MA. Theres lots of us old farts here, you'll be right at home.
Thank you all for the warm welcome. @Crashton - love your name - hope to see you on the Dragon. In 2011 we had perfect weather although the first night there were terrible storms / tornados(?) in Alabama - missed us but there were trees down for a short time on the Dragon.
Hey Frantic... 'er what exactly did Mr. Jim do and where did he go... ...oops, i see according to his avatar he went to North Carolina - i have a brother that lives in Boone right next to the Blue Ridge Parkway - great driving road.
In 2011 we stopped at my brother's in Boone on the way to the Dragon. He is about an hour from Hickory. Very beautiful country down there.
We are in Pitman but we usually make it to Cape May once or twice a year. It is our favorite shore town. We vacationed there many years.
