:eek6:Newbie to forum. Unfortunatley my Mini Cooper was written off, Now saving and looking for a replacement. But my as daughters Cooper S R56 N14 has got a few problems thought it time to get some help. Found reading some members feedback on this site very helpful.

    Faults currently on motor.

Fan kicks on when car started from cold and runs for 3-5mins when turned straigh off. (purchased Thermo sensor to try first)

Brake light on (Red) should be front as new back pads and discs fitted in April 2013. Purchased 2 sensors and pads today. Can take sensor back if not needed.

Passenger window does not drop when door opened. Drivers drops about 2-3mm tried many different reset procedures from forum non have worked so far.

Went to change oil yesterday and found dreaded mayonnaise under filler cap, this may explain the fan problem. Bought new cylinder head gasket kit and after trying for hours on the internet to find a way to avoid buying cam locking tool. I gave in and bought one today. £180 ouch! but still beats the £1100 wanted by dealers and £1000 for independant and risk of destoying the engine.

Purchased a couple of 150mm m8 bolts washers and cut a couple lengths of 120mm 17od tubing (could not find 19mm od) total cost £1 to use for setting into service mode.

Next couple of days are going to be busy, fitting all parts above my first head removal, done clutches and all the usual breakdowns before, but nothing as complicated as head removal. Does anyone know if I have to buy further replacement bolts eg (cam sprocket bolts etc) when head gets refitted.

Any suggestion on windows not dropping would be great, unless I am doing it wrong. Its a push start R56 N14 engine. Sept 2008.

Look forward to getting help and giving help back when I can.

Welcome to MA! I'm a R53 guy so I'm not much help. On my 02 I had the same problem. I had to disconnect the battery for about ten min. with the window down. It worked after that. It may have been a coincident.

kilty, is the software image on your R56 current from MINI, some issues with window up and partial down etc... on the R56 were fixed with some software updates from MINI about MID-Cycle.

I have a 2007, no window issues, other folks have had issues and software loads fixed.
