Hello, I have a 2008 Mini Cooper S, have only had it since September of 2013. After taking it in for some maintenance today they found the Tensioner seal to be leaking, and it drenched the water pump pulley, friction wheel, and serpentine belt. I opted to do the work myself instead of pay $1300 extra. Didn't have a service manual and could barely find a write up in the time I needed it. I have everything replaced now but my car seems to be misfiring now I remember the tech telling me to lock the timing chain while replacing something but I didn't see where I needed to. Did I jump a tooth somehow? I unbolted the tensioner put on the new seal threaded it back in then proceeded to go through all the steps to get friction wheel off and pulley and put it all back together in reverse order putting the new serpentine belt on before the new friction wheel. Any help on what i messed up on would amaaaazzingly helpful, I really don't like timing issues :/
Sorry I can't help, I'm a R53 guy. So I'll give you a bump. Some one will be along that can help. I would not run it till I know your cams are timed correctly. If not you run the risk of binding a valve.
Yeah...it is an interference motor...bad timing means new valvetrain...maybe a new motor... I'm guessing if you did not lock the cams....time to get it towed...so the timing can be set... I am a gen1 guy...but sounds like it is not good.
Welcome to M/A Sorry I know little about the French MINI engines. I'd get it to someone who knows them. Not doing so could become quite costly. If you tell us where you are someone may be able to point you to a good shop.
Ok I won't run it. I live in San Jose, CA. Would be nice to know a shop that excels in mini's other than the dealer hopefully a bit cheaper too
