New to the site but not to MINI. I have a a 2008 Chili Red/White Cooper S. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QprFggZF4Bw&list=UUr8HFlhki226QQhStWppzEA&index=1&feature=plcp]2008 MINI COOPER S v2 - YouTube[/ame] Video is from around the time I first bought her, before the wheels and Alta intake. Gotta say it's been fun but she's been giving me fits since around 80K. I will post this in the appropriate area but here are the details - Check yellow check engine light pops on, power drops. Dealer says that the waste gate has failed. Result, $3,000 for replacement and labor. :mad2: Should I trade her in for an FR-S or BRZ... or should I bolt in an Alta replacement turbo at 95k miles on her? Your input would be helpful. Thanks.
Fix her. I drove the FR-S before I decided on the MINI. I found the MINI to be simply more fun to drive as well as more practical. Also the MINI is significantly faster and better gas mileage. The FR-S also needs premium fuel.
Hello, from a fairly new member, too! FRS/BRZ, an auto blog I enjoy, The Truth About Cars, did a track review on the Scion yesterday [net: rated it behind a Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T and a Miata MX-5, mostly due to the powertrain]. Just a data point. Yeesh on the repair bill you mentioned <shivers>.
Welcome to M/A, of course all of us MINI owners say Fix or trade to a new MINI. If your happy with the overall MINI, I say fix. Contact Way at Way Motor Works see what he may have laying about for turbo replacement or know of a repair shop. You could upgrade your Turbo with a JCW unit, then do the Access Port from Alta, that would be one way to map it properly. Don
just had my waste gate replaced (non-dealer). The part was around $216 and total cost with labour was only $522. no, actually it was the waste gate control valve they replaced (p/n 11657599547). http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=MF73&mospid=50031&btnr=11_3982&hg=11&fg=45 Didn't actually fix my problem though, which sounds the same as yours.
Welcome, sorry but it sounds very possible that you need a turbo. I have rebuilt turbos here in stock, new ones are not cheap.
:cornut: Welcome to M/A! My Margi(08 R56 MCS/JCWm) was a garage queen up through 50kmi but, no problems since and since I had the 50kmi warranty, the only thing lost was my patience and time. I kept her though, she's my Babe and I love driving her(actually, it's more like she takes me for therapeutic rides). Plus I put $3,000. worth of bling/up grades in/on her and got her just the way that I want her. No, barring a $1,000,000 inheritance(never happen), I'm just going to fix what breaks and drive on.
