So a couple weeks back I was driving home from my parents on the 57 South. I was in the #2 lane and there were cars flanking me in the #1 and #3 lanes. The car ahead of me swerves quickly from the #2-3 lanes and I see a tire lying dead center of my lane. I was traveling at 70mph, and I started to hit the brakes but I didn't want the front of my car to dip too low, so I let off the brakes. With cars on both sides of me there was nothing else I could do but run over it. I hit the tire and it didn't seem too bad. I pulled over and inspected the outside and the lower grill was slightly bent in but other than that I couldn't see any damage. It wasn't until the next day when I started my car. There was squeaking, oil, coolant, and a/c coolant slowly leaking on my garage floor. Long short of it my insurance is replacing the oil pan gasket, a/c condenser, radiator, radiator frame, front spoilers, and the front underside plastic shielding. I am trying to get them to cover the crank pulley as that is the cause of the squeaking, which wasn't present prior to the tire strike. Anyways, they have to inspect the part to make sure it isn't due to wear and tear. We'll see. I'm just glad my car isn't in shambles. Here are some pics. More in my album: MobileMe Gallery
oh ive nailed a large chunk of tire retread, large flying piece of carpet and hit a gator...not a road gator...but a 12ft gator in fl...oh i can attest the front end can take quite a bit of abuse
That sucks! My husband hit a freakin' car bumper on 95 once, right after he bought his car.... no time to react. I hope everything gets fixed up for you :frown2:
I know we all have stories, but I'll never forget the day on 95 (I hate that road) when the car in front (fast lane) and the car next to them (middle lane) split right and left, leaving me a clear view of the commode, seat, tank and all, sitting up right on the yellow line. This was in traffic, at about 65 and it was darn close when I squeezed by it. Jim
I once jumped an armchair in a similar situation on the 5. It was laying upside down and its back literally served as a ramp to get all four wheels up in the air.
Jackrabbit + MINI + ~100 speed units = One bloody mess Cattle Guard + Splitter + DIP! = Yet another front bumper Ant Hill + Splitter + Agricultural Excursion x Track Day = 3rd ones gone!
Hey Nathan you need to crank those coil-overs up & get you some ground clearance. The groundhogs in Ohio are fat so ground clearance is needed.
You'll learn that every group needs someone to lead the pack; if for nothing else clear the road of said groundhogs....while he was in TX Nathan was used to clear lots of things off the road.
J hit a huge Oregon raccoon coming home late from a gig. Said it sounded like a bowling ball rolling around under the car. It took out the radiator, washer reservoirs, a support pillar, and various other bits. Odd thing was the bumper had no cosmetic damage. Sure glad insurance covered it!
I dodged a ladder once. That was hairy. Had to go all the way into the breakdown lane, in the rain, at 65 mph. Would have done a lot of damage.
Going to the Atlanta airport one night and right in downtown in the tunnel on the connector, a Coke truck lost one of those heavy duty hand trucks. That thing looked possessed as is whipped down the interstate, bouncing off the walls and changing directions like a chased antelope. It crossed the interstate 3 or 4 times before slowing, but everyone managed to avoid it. Pucker factor was HIGH that night...
