:cornut: Well, the dust has settled and everyone is still standing happily beside their Supercharger:D or Turbocharger:D, so lets continue on and get friendly opinions on:

    1. Injection. Yes or No, do you inject anything besides 93 octane fuel in your MINI's intake system(to not beat a dead horse:deadhorse:, we'll leave Seafoam/Techron etc out of the discussion). Why/Why Not? Improved performance? Have dynamo data(butt dynamo okay but state as such) to back it up?
    2. Water Injection? Yes or No? Tell us about it. Benefits/Pitfalls/Equipment/Cost
    3. Methanol Injection?( as above)
    4. Nitrous Oxide Injection?(as above, no comment on other possible recreational uses please:crazy::aureola::devil:)
    5. Nitromethane Injection?( as above and let everyone get 50yds away before you start your car:lol:)
    6. Any combination of the above 1-5

Please contribute an opinion. Here at MA, no one is completely right or wrong, we are all just members/MINIacs helping educate each other.:D:cornut::Thumbsup:

The only thing that I could legitimately add to this thread at this time would be to say, once my NO2 system is complete it will be used sparingly, not only for the safety of my motor, but for the expense.
It's gonna cost me nearly $70.00 to fill up my 10lb bottle. :(

I will however be more than happy to share what I learn along the way, good, bad or otherwise. :fingerscrossed: (haa, haa, I didn't even realize that was a real smiley, I just wrote it out )

Jason I don't know what has been done to your MINI so far. I have a 02 here is a list of what has been done so far.
    Cold air intake
    17% SC pulley
    Headers
    Exhaust
    Nology Plug Wires
    Eibach Pro-Kit Spring Set
    Koni yellows

The Pulley is the biggest bang for the buck. Most people use the 15% pulley. It is probably the best option. I would not do a 19% pulley unless you add a bigger intercooler. the 17% is pushing needing a better intercooler.

I would do the intake, pulley, and at least a cat back exhaust before I thought of doing anything els.

I love NOS! As long as it is on some one else's car.
My son and I went to a dino day. This guy with a MR2 went before us, he had NOS on his car. It was really cool when he touched it off. Parts blew out of the top and bottom of the engine. :eek6: He had it setup wrong.

Its all your taste. Just make a plan before you through parts at it.
    Have fun.

:cornut: I probably should have started with the disclaimer that no, I have no injection on Margi(08 R56 MCS/JCWm)except for the MINI factory Fuel Injection. Injection seems to be for a level of performance quite above my spirited street needs and my pay check to pay check economic means. I just thought that it would be nice to hear other MINIacs tell us of their stories and adventures with this kind of performance boost.

I want to put an Aquamist HFS-4 water/methanol injection system on my MINI.
I think it will, along with an Oil Catch Can, prevent carbon build up on my exhaust valves.

    Howerton Engineering, LLC – MINI

I wanted to get one that has a tank that will fit in the spare tire well of my Clubman. I talked to Jeff Howerton, he said that the tank pictured in a Clubman spare tire well at his website is 11 inches tall and doesn't fit under the false floor in the Clubman's trunk. He said they could make a tank to fit if I supplied the measurements. I measured, the tank would have to be 7 inches tall to fit under the false floor.

I will probably get the system sometime next year.

I want to run a 30% mixture of methanol and water, which is what the -20 degree blue windshield washer fluid is. From what I've read, it works well if you look at the material safety data sheet for the fluid you buy, to be sure that it has nothing other than water, methanol and blue dye in it.

I have an older Aquamist HFS -6 meth kit from Jeff Howerton. I only run 100% VP M1 methanol and my kit has run great for the last 3+ years without any issues. Never put washer fluid of any kind in your kit because the dye will clog your jet and will also gum up your pump. Pure meth or a water meth mix is best, nothing else.

If you want to know about all the benefits of methanol injection I suggest reading Jeff Howerton's site.

I installed a Howerton HFS-4 kit this spring.
    I run roughly a 50-50 mix of water/meth through an .06 nozzle.

I mainly wanted it for the cleaning and cooling effect. It comes on at about 5 PSI of boost and really seems to make the MINI smile. I have an AP and this is just frosting on the cake. This is the butt dyno talking.

I do not have the car tuned for W/M and don't intend to, although with a tune, HP gains are to be had, I am looking more towards longevity.

I use VP M1, only drive during the summer, and have gone thru about maybe 3-3 1/2 gallons of meth in roughly 8,000 miles.

    Kind of spendy, bottom line :D :D :D :D

How was the 4 to install? I'm bouncing between the 3 or 4, was going to call Howerton for their recomendation.

Install would be the same for either the 3 or 4.

The difference is the 4 works off rail pressure as well as the ECU with greater adjustability if I remember correctly. The difference is in the control unit.

Not hard to install, everything is pretty straightforward.

I've been running a frankensteined system made up of some Devil's Own and Cooling Mist and other parts for almost 4 years. I've injected washer fluid (the blue stuff, yes Dave it's nasty), pure water, pure meth, and many different ratios of water/meth, and various rates. I'm currently injecting a tiny amount of 80% meth/20% water, progressively scaling up at boost levels between about 7psi and max boost.

The primary intent of my rig was (and remains) cooling. I only want to use enough meth to keep intake temps relatively low (near ambient) under load when it's warm or hot outside. I don't want to use enough to have a significant impact on fueling (making the car run significantly richer) and I don't want to tune for it specifically, so I want it to always be "an option" - not something I need to run for safety based on a meth-dependent tune. With my rig, the car pretty much always runs like it does on a cool day with a cool intercooler and cool intake air. Even on hot days, when I'm hammering it.

Other people have different goals, and there are much better systems than mine out there for achieving other goals. I love the Howerton stuff, and would probably do that if I were doing it again now from scratch. But experimenting has been fun and educational. :)

My original post about this on my blog is here:
BlimeyCabrio » Blog Archive » Blimey’s Meth Lab

I've worn out a few pumps, a few solenoids, etc. since then, and my current rig is a bit different, but still pretty close.

+1 on the above, I added this comment elsewhere on the interwebz and thought it appropriate here also, while the aquamist is def. the cream of the crop & the overall "way to go", for some it may be to pricey for a first time, and yes I firmly believe "you get what you pay for", but if you do decide to go with a lesser system to start or experiment with, do yourself a favor, don't tune for it, use it's basic cooling properties for just that, cooling, nothing more, hell we all know what it's like to drive our cars hard in the summer heat vs the crisp fall air, so you'll have that overall benefit without jeopardizing your motor.

Being in the heat of Fl, and all the Tunes a long ways away.. The first mod ( after the 15%) was the Snow Water-meth. It allowed a 8 WHP over no water meth and no tune. I tried a bunch of mixes and settled on a 50/50 ... The ECU and engine loves it here in Da South. ( I am not tuned.. much less for the WM)

Being 67 Years old and on the bottle since the early 80's, to me it IS the best bang for your buck. Tried the Dry system, and didnt like the A/F, and as I am still using the 06OEM Injectors, I wanted to have the ability to at least move my A/F around. Went to a bastard system of used "NOS" parts NOW it is right in the sweet spot.

Water meth has been on and running strong since '06, and the Nitrous on since '07. I have raised the rpm level to 8000 revs and shift ( when I am engaged in a speeding contest)7500-7800.

Some Data... ( No bottle on this data, engine run only)
    th_136mph11AFR16psi_zpsec3fb32e.jpg

Totally a fun ride and still manages 30+ MPG on the Hi-way.

    Just me......................
