Just ran across this on gizmodo.com. Looks pretty sturdy and doesn't cost a lot. Thought some of you might like this. Works with all kinds of phones, GPS, tablets, etc

Their site even shows still shots of it installed in a MINI.

Just as an aside a couple of the mount placements they show would result in your phone going through your head in an accident. If you get one of these find pictures of a car like yours with the air bags deployed. You really do not want to mount this to a panel that gets blown aside by an air bag. Other than that this looks like a really great solution in that it is two proven technologies (suction cups and binder clips) with some good engineering behind them.

Haha. Never thought about the A-pillar airbag.

The only items they are missing to make this foolproof are Ductape and WD40!!

Very cool - I kept waiting for him to fasten it to his forehead!

Have to see if the cables can reach if it's on the dash.

I like how the first set of example pics shows it mounted on the wall behind a typewriter! You have to look pretty hard to find a typewriter these days.

One of the best mounts I've seen, at least in principle. No way to know how well it works in practice but it uses some of the simplest devices around and looks pretty universal to me.

I bet if you have long hair it will keep it out of your eyes. Like in bun, or a pony tail.

    Pretty cool.....
I'm thinking I can clip it around the center of my Chihuahua's body and then with the suction cup, attach her to the passenger side window. That way she can see what's going on when the two of us are out for a spin in the MINI.....:D

    Metalman,

I think you win the award for best use case for the device.

Your dog will be very happy to be able to see out the window.

Lawyers from PETA just called, they are threatening to shut the site down and have the domain blacklisted for all eternity.

So, how does that suction cup stick to rough surfaces like the A pillar plastic?

Gecko feet. For each mount it takes hundreds of geckos. The company has cress bred geckos and salamanders so that they can harvest gecko feet from living geckos and get them to regenerate.

And you thought PETA didn't like the Chihuahua thing....

    Reminds me of:

Hey, will that thing stick to my abdomen? I think I might have another use for it.

Well, I could attached to my knees, but then I would have to walk around bowlegged.
