To those that think the MINI fires are limited to the S models there is a report in the Telegraph & Argus of a Justa that caught fire about 5 hours after the owner arrived home. The good news is the fire crew arrived in time to put it out just as the brake line burst and it started rolling towards the house. The bad news is it's burnt up MINI. Now I'm not saying there are issues with the Justa's. merely pointing out that it happens... Click for full article
Alas it looks more and more like if I ever decide to sell my 06' it will not be replaced with a MINI product unless their direction changes a lot..... Customer of mines friend, bought a new MINI last fall, it has been towed in three times and the shortest so called fix took three weeks. The car has spent more time with the dealer than with the owner. Now cars that self ignite..... Unacceptable. Anyone seen that new Subaru coming out...BRZ I think?
I'm with you on the MINI replacement. Not sure I'd buy another one (hey, didn't I just get rid of my '09 for an '06?) Yes, seen the BRZ: it's nice-looking.... although I feel they could have given it a little more "go" power.
Yup, I really like my MINI, but...... Not liking the complexity and all the problems cropping up with the 2nd generation. Even though my dealer has been good to work with, I'm not sure it will continue the same once the warranty runs out. Don't particularly like the way BMW / MINI respond to defect problems (Us first, customer second kind of attitude). I don't have a good feeling the 3rd generation will be any different. They seem to be pricing themselves out of the market. MINI is a premium car but it sure has a lot of issues tagging along for such an expensive little box. I'm sad to say I don't really see a BMW or a MINI in my future.... I'll most likely go JDM next time.... I'm sure liking this though..... EDIT: Oh, and the boxer engine has direct injection..... and pre injection..... SO NO "EXCESSIVE" CARBON BUILDUP ON THE INTAKE VALVES....
Now that is on my short list too.....along with the Golf R, Scirocco R, Volvo C30R, and oh so many more. :biggrin5:
I'm not buying another MINI either, 'cause I'm keeping mine forever!! I haven't had any problems with mine, the only time it's been in the dealer's service bay was for it's free annual oil change. Dave
Eye, but the Turbo version will soon follow!!! ....low weight, low center of gravity, motor well back in the car, giving it great balance.....the possibility for this to become the car to beat at the track is real and soon to be a "present danger."
Has anyone seen Justa Jim? It can't take that long to feed the horses. I wonder why he hasn't posted???? Must not have WIFI set up in his new garageesses...... I be missin you Jim..... Where are ya buddy????
I think justajim is out sitting by his justacooper with a fire extinguisher in one hand & a hot-dog roasting stick in the other. He is prepared in either case. As has been said 1st gen MINI's also can burn up. I though the NHTSA was looking into it, but it has been quite a while since I've heard anymore about that. I'm sitting on the fence as to whether my next car will be a MINI or not. So many nice fun cars out there & so little time. For the time being I'll squeeze another pile of miles out of mine. It has been a good car & a FUN car.
Sorry I'm late to the party, been staying busy to keep my mind of the mare and foal we lost yesterday. Takes a few days to sink in. Unless things change drastically, I'll have a roadster as my next car, but it might be a "Justa", with only cosmetic mods. Want a car that doesn't look like every other car, has some retro-ness to it and the power thing is not all that important to me. So, are all you folks who plan to jump ship still going to come to MOTD, so we can party? Jim
Jim.... First, I'm so sorry to here about the mare and foal. I can imagine this is a very sad time for you. Second- I finally got my R53, so I plan on holding onto it for quite a while. Third- hell yeah I'd still come to the dragon... The hubby comes with me every year and he doesn't have a MINI (btw- thanks for putting up with the non MINI folks :biggrin5
The way I see it is you go there to be with friends. MINI's are cool & I really enjoy mine, but my friends are much more important to me. Doesn't matter what they drive IMHO.
