but when I used to bury a url in a word, the word turned blue and was underlined like this. Which was nice as it clearly identified where the link was at.

But not anymore. It just turns blue.

Is it just me, or did something change?

Thanks,

Les

I think you have to tag it if it's not the actual URL.

That's curious. What is "tag"?

I execute the exact same steps on other forums and the word with the buried url turns blue and is underlined.

Do yours turn blue and get underlined here on MA?

Twitter This one i copied then pasted from the browser.
Twitter This one I used the world/link icon.

It looks like they all turned into links, but they are only underlined if i hover over them.

Well......I'll be a son of a hoosegow. They do become underlined when you hover over them.

How about that!

That's the way it works here on M/A. We talked about that early on and this is what we ended up with. I personally prefer to see links stand out a bit more obviously so I usually add the underline myself when I link something.

There are a few things at work here.

The style was set from the get go that links would be blue but not underlined unless hovered over.

There is a also a bit of code behind the scenes that takes a URL and if there is a description of that URL the description shows instead of the http://... bit. It lends for a cleaner look when reading text.

So instead of seeing http://www.sitename.com/lotsofotherstufftahatcanbeconfusing you see Lots of other stuff that can be confusing as the link.

The code that is actually on the page for the last part of the example above is:

PHP:
Lots of other stuff that can be confusing
BTW, that link leads no place.
