I have the JCW front brake calipers on my R53 MINI. I recently changed my brake pads getting ready for a track day next week and have noticed since the swap that the right caliper isn't sweeping the entire disk on the passenger side. (I can see the rust on the disk after it rains overnight isn't being swept clean.) The car is braking in a straight line, but the right side is about 100 degrees hotter than the left after my hour long commute in the morning. When I changed the pads, I pressed the pistons back into the caliper on both sides. And the passenger side piston appears to be retracting as the there is some movement of the caliper on the carrier and the rotor spins as freely as the otherside. Any thoughts?
Do they even make those for the JCW brakes? I haven't checked in a while. I'd be interested in a set or two.
What do you mean by that? The pins of the pads to the carrier or the caliper to the carrier? I'm currently using the clips circled in red. I swapped the pads today and used a little brake lube on the tabs. The strange thing was that the inside was just the opposite: sweeping the lower 3/4 of the rotor but not the outside edge. It was almost as if the caliper were twisting, but given the design I don't see how this would be possible since it doesn't have rubber bushings like the stock caliper. I'm headed to the track on Wednesday and will have to just take it easy in the first session and see if it corrects itself.
The front JCW brakes have solid / floating guide arrangement - no rubber bushings like the rear and the non-JCW fronts...
Thought they had the same pins as the R53 calipers did. Still looks like the carrier is shifting during braking.
