I can't believe I just bought this 2007 Mini Cooper S from a Buick dealer for my daughter as an Xmas present and just over 30 days I notice a coolant leak yesterday on the garage floor. I took it back to the Buick dealer and they said they will take a look at it tomorrow. Thank God someone on this forum (Wisc07S) suggested it may be the temp sensor located on the thermostat housing...because I did see traces of green antifreeze on top of the transmission where it ran down from. I will tell the tech this information. Thank you so much from Las Vegas!
Apparently it is a known problem. My 2007 MINI surprised me with the same leak just after Christmas and that is exactly what the problem was, gasket around the thermostat. Thank goodness I purchased the extended warranty in August as I put it to good use just after New Years. I also had a ruptured motor mount which is also a known problem, so I had that fixed while I was at it. Don't fret, MINIs are great little cars. I love my MINI even more than the day that I bought her. I even missed her while she was at the shop overnight! And look at the bright side, if you have an S, it's not being recalled! :biggrin5:
Thank you "Kikimowse" I do a lot of automotive work myself but I did buy an extended warranty, but they said it does not take effect until 30 days and 1000 miles, I only have 903 so they said they can't honor my warranty. The selling dealer, BUICK GMC said he would look at it as a good will gesture, this is why I do not like to buy used cars! But with 3 kids in college I have to go used! She loves her car though.
And thanks back to you Mrclean! I just developed a coolant leak in my 2008 S R56, and after reading your post, I'm going out there right now to look at the the sensor on the thermostat housing! I'm thinking everyone else is talking about R53s (2007 convertible is an R53). Probably, as Mini lovers, they have MANY Minis, and they have forgotten they are in the 2nd Gen section.
He posted in the right place. "Convertible" came from your mind. Also, an R53 doesn't have a temp sensor located on the thermostat housing.
