Hey everyone just wondering what are some easy and the cheapest ways possible to add more hp to my mini?
I've edited the thread title to something a little more descriptive, this will help more people understand quickly what the subject matter is. There are some standard type questions that all threads of this type needs. What are your goals, are you looking to Auto-X, attend track days, or just more all around omph. What year is the MINI? Is it an S or Justacooper? How many miles are on the MINI and has it been checked over recently to make sure there are no other issues that may cause problems when more stress is added by creating more hp? In general, where are you located?
Wow... I have a list of things....!! Answer Nates questions, and let the fun begin!! Just me............................... Thumper
3 letters N.O.S kits start at about $400 for 25-75 increase in HP 3 letters L.P.G about $500 for 8 -12% overall increase
Would be my $.02. $69 for a chip that will get you "up to 60hp?" There's a reason chips/tuners are usually expensive. Also, if you pick another car from their list on the side of their webpage, the new info page for the chip for that new car will be exactly the same as the one for the MINI, just with the name/brand of the new car replacing the name MINI all throughout the page. Certainly doesn't seem legit to me, but I've been wrong before. Once. YMMV.
Yes... their site is generic... however , the a/f and the ign timing changes are for cars specific... thus the question. Have you used it or just having an opinion?? cool?? I assume it is an opinion. Just me................. Thumper PS as the electronics become more available.. the less they cost.. remember the 800.00 computers?? Tpr
There is quite a bit of coding to the CAN system that requires decryption just to read it. Each car is different and has its own unique characteristics that a simple off the shelf device can't conquer. Each car is different in its AF/R on top of that, so a true tune would be personalized to each individual customers specific modifications, climate, altitude. You really don't want to be playing games with your cars computer.
I do remember paying 3 grand for a PC that was not anywhere near as close to as capable as what a $300 one is today. However those chips are pure BS. For example, they have a chip for an Amphicar 770. Last made in 1966 the Amphicar 770 used a Triumph four-cylinder engine of 1147 cc, 8.0 compression ratio, rated at 38.3 bhp. Where do you put a chip in that? How about in the 1957 Desoto Adventurer they have listed. You can even get a chip for a 71 Checker Marathon and become the fastest Taxi around. Yeah, they are real legit and that $69 chip will do a lot for you, like make your wallet lighter. So it's time to end this conversation and let the OP tell us what he/she has for a MINI, what the goals are and what kind of budget is available. From there we can collectively offer informed advice and not point him/her towards pure junk designed solely to rip off the naive consumer.
SOoooo... NO ONE has tried it ?? It is funny how the lack of knowledge, or the internet rederick can sway opinions ?? Yes?? The bottom line here is YES. s-18 needs to say what he has to power up. two, if NO one has tried the G force thingy.. how can y'all be so strong in your opinions?? Scared?? mis informed?? SOOoo... anyone use this thing yet?? You can PM me with your results if you wish. Thanks Just me......................( looking for answers and not mis leading info) Thumper
Thumper, are you going to install the G force chip that you just got? I for one would like to know how it turns out for you?
I asked that ya'll bring this thread back on topic. Silly me...So I went and created this thread http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/cooper-s-engine-drivetrain/4104-g-force-chip-real-rip-off.html#post38445 about the G-Force thing. Talk about it there. To the OP. sorry about that, we do want to help even if the members sometimes get sidetracked.
Sorry Nathan ........... Cold Air Intake, reasonably easy to install and not very expensive and available from several of our supporting vendors. And yes, I sometimes get off course and end up rolling around in the weeds.
