I just installed a Magnaflow exhaust with a 3" pipe from the catback and it drones unbearably. Would a resonator or 2.5" pipe take some of the drone out? It drones badly around 3k rpm at around 4k rpm it is fine. The drone on shifting thru the gears and on let off of gas pedal is terrible if not at 4k rpm or higher.
I too had a Magnaflow on my '04 and the drone was loud. From what I researched I either had to replace the exhaust or live with it. I lived with it for 106,000 miles before selling the car. Huh....what did you say?
back to stock now, couldn't handle the drone with my hearing as it is... Thanks for the above info...
Everything I have read about Magnaflow exhausts on MINI's says they are loud & drone. Hope you find something that you like more. I'm not sure what the best setup is for an R56. Hopefully someone will be able to chime in with the answer to that. For my R53 I found the JCW was the sweet one. Maybe a JCW for an R56 would suit you.
I am not sure I bought it used from someone else. It has a 3" inlet, two exhaust and 4" tips. Sounds good on the outside.
I just installed a borla on my non-s. Under light throttle there is a hummmmmm that fills the cabin, but on flat highway at 70 its whisper quiet. When throttle is applied it does get intrusive. Im 70% happy i did it.
The one I had purchased was off a 2010 so not sure what changed between the '10s and 11's but it droned bad.
