How much power is too much power? 1. If your car can't go a week without breaking, you went too far. 2. If you can't pay the electric bill because you spent all your money on engine upgrades, you went too far. 3. If your wife is having an affair because you spend too much time working on your car, you went too far. Anyone have anything to add to this list? CD
Unfortunately, too much power for many of us here and too much power for the general public are two completely different things. And Mfg.'s have to play to the lowest common denominator. Which includes the guy who takes his car to the dealer for an oil change and the guy who doesn't change his oil but every 50k miles, they're all rolled into one in the eyes of the Mfg.'s.
^^^ And now we have lifetime oil as a result.... Oh.... And get rid of the damn dip stick while we are at it... Mama Mama..... Grandpa said he used to have to change his old oil...:eek6: No worries child, grandpa is just telling stories again....
When your passenger can't grab $100 bill off the dash while you accelerate. You maybe went too far If your wife can't apply make up while you're moving. You went too far

The general public has access to Corvettes putting out 650hp (more on the road in this town than MINIs), F types punch 560hp and one of BMW's own luxury coupes is pushing 445hp (7 series). BMW obviously knows how to make the hp, they are just not going to put it in a MINI, it doesn't make sense form a business stand point. There needs to be division between the two brands and the line between the 2016 2 series (240hp) and the 2016 JCW (228hp) is it from what I can tell. Doesn't mean I don't think they should pushing 300hp though, I think they are plenty capable and I am all for it.:cornut:
I think a stock MINI is about right, but could be perfect with a touch more power. I'd be happy with 220-240 in my R56.
I'll bet the Manhart car doesn't meet US emissions laws either (removed cats), but adding HP isn't the issue IMHO, it's performing better than BMW's that's the problem. They don't need 300 hp if they can take another 500lbs out of the car.
Ain't that the truth, I might as well be carrying around a boot full of bricks considering I have a convertible....
My cast iron block 6 cylinder Jag weighs 400 lbs less than my 2009 Clubman S......I think they could go on a substantial weight reduction program.
When you can't get the power to the street because it's FWD with no real LSD... too much power. When you can't properly modulate the throttle to control the vehicle... too much power. When you make a car so fast that it becomes unstable at max speed with its aero design... too much power. When you make the car prone to Mustang GT-like neighborhood incidents... too much power.
