OK Mellow Yellow (and all other) MINIacs, I have a question for you! Ever since the question was asked I have been on a mission. The question is this: how rare are Mellow Yellow MINIs? MINIUSA is VERY tight-lipped about the general production run. In fact, it is their internal policy not to release any such data for any color or model or any other data for that matter. I am not looking for numbers here, just a confirmation, really. My dealer told me MY is one of the rarest colors - I was told less than 5% of the total worldwide production run are MY (most of them in Europe) but have received any other confirmation. I certainly wouldn't be surprised given the few MINIs with this color I've seen, but was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the subject. What are the other rare colors? I doubt MY is the rarest given there are a few that were only available for 1 year. Just curious.:confused5:
I know it was off the market for awhile and then cam back for a couple of years. I believe that 2009 was the last year it was available. Jim
Why would they not want to release that info.. Could be a good selling point for rare colors, and or optioned cars..
Quote: My sentiment exactly; but, to a little extent I can understand the logic as well in that it can have unintended consequences on their business and sales models, overall profit margins, or inadvertently giving their competitors some kind of edge with the data. However, my main question still stands. I understand when the colors were available which can lead to their overall scarcity (obviously by nature these colors can be extremely rare if available for only a year). There is a REALLY cool list I found here in M/A with that information I've never seen anywhere else - I was truly impressed. However, for colors that were/continue to be available for longer periods of time, that does not necessarily translate to how rare the color is overall on MINIs motoring around out there. Mellow Yellow was available for several years (like some of the other colors), but that doesn't necessarily mean folks were too terribly keen selecting the color to paint their prized MINI given that everyone is able to specifically choose their own colors during the build process - some colors are simply more popular than others. There are of course colors that regardless of how long they are/were available, may wind up being extremely rare on MINIs simply because most potential pilots may wish to tend to their previously digested lunch looking at it or MINI may realize the idea was better left in the closet in the paint can:smile5:. I'm still trying to figure out if the dealer's comment is generally accurate - that of all the colors that were not only available but requested to be painted, does Mellow Yellow make up less than 5% of the total (requested) production run? If that's true, what about some of the other colors? What other colors make up less than 5% of the total requested production run? Perhaps my question overall is pointless anyway as all MINIs are like fingerprints - totally unique (if so, I apologize)? As it is I can honestly say I have never seen any two MINIs exactly alike - EVERY MINI is exceptional and therefore I suppose the question of scarcity of any option itself is redundant. To me it's still an interesting question, though, and I'd love to hear anyone's confirmation.
Chilli Red, Pepper White, and maybe one of the blacks seems to be their go to colors.. Been available bout every year. There are a few colors in the 2 Gen Models that I don't know the name of but I hope are very rare, as I can't believe someone actually bought it off the lot, let alone ordered that color!!! Wish they would make a true white in the Cooper one day... Maybe one day they will release the figures on the colors and options etc. like they have done for the muscle cars of yesteryear. You can find out how many 68 Mustangs were built in any color, engine, trans, etc. etc. combo... Which in turn helps the value of these cars at auction..
