Published on Dec 5, 2013 Starting with a single cellist on the floor of the National Air and Space Museum's "Milestones of Flight" gallery, and swelling to 120 musicians, The U.S. Air Force Band exhilarated museum visitors with its first-ever flash mob. The four-minute performance featured an original arrangement of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring/Joy to the World," led by the band's commander and conductor, Col. Larry H. Lang. Unsuspecting museum visitors including tourists and school groups were astonished as instrumentalists streamed into the gallery from behind airplanes and space capsules, and vocalists burst into song from the Museum's second floor balcony. That reminds me of the first Christmas we went to LA to see the in-laws. Flew out on Christmas eve to LAX. My father-in-law picked us up. I couldn't believe it was midnight on Christmas eve. The freeways there looked like rush hour any place else. Decided right then nice place to visit don't want to live there.
Incredible indeed but I will be the Devil's advocate here. When I saw the number of stripes on all the uniforms I have to admit the first thing that crossed my mind was I wonder how much a year this is costing us the tax payers. Flame away.

Back in the late 60s I had the opportunity to grab a hop from Offutt AFB in Omaha, Nebr to Travis AFB in California, I wanted to go home for Christmas. The flight going west was a prop job and was transporting the USAF Band East to West for some event in California. Long story made short, most of the these folks in 69 were pretty young as was I. It was not the best flight over the Rockies due to clouds and some bad weather. I have not seen so many folks airsick. My thought now, these folks earn every stripe! Wonderful to see. Don
