Miami is round two of the 2011 series. RSR will field 3 cars... 195 Chris Sarian and VJ Mirzayan 196 Ron Farmer and Jason Hart (7th at Daytona) 198 Sarah Cattaneo and Owen Trinkler (6th at Daytona) Sarah was on the pole at Miami last year. The performance bar has been raised in 2011 so it will be a tough fight. Miami is a much better track for the Mini's than Daytona. The tight twisty infield works to our advantage. The banking is a disadvantage but only a mile long. There will be 67 cars on the grid! TV coverage: Mar 19, 2:00 PM ET, SPEED opcorn: Hope to see you there! Randy
Go RSR -- we'll all be cheering you on...at least in spirit. It's amazing how different the views are about that track. Of course this article is about a Rolex team view, but still... GAINSCO's Wilbert Preparing for 'Hardest Place We Go To' (grand-am.com) [full article at grand-am.com]
Quali results from yesterday: P15 -- 198 -- Cattaneo / Trinkler P26 -- 195 -- Mirzayan / Smalley P28 -- 196 -- Farmer / Hart Looks like Homestead hasn't been as kind as expected to the MINIs so far. The race is later this afternoon. Fingers crossed. (FWIW, the Rolex race is being shown live on Speed right now.)
I've been checking the numbers occasionally on live timing and the race just ended minutes ago. To avoid spoilers here I'll just say HOLY !&#@ what an ending!!!! In the last half hour the top 8 or so in ST seemed to get closer and closer lap by lap (seems backward doesn't it?) and a few places changed among the top 5 (incl. all 3 podium positions!) in the closing seconds. I can't wait to see it next week. Here's hoping they show enough of the ST race so we get to see that apparently exciting finale.
