They called me from the track the other day to ask me to purchase a season pass again this year. I replied to the nice gentleman that I would be renewing as I did not feel the value was there this year. We discussed the lack of ALMS and Grand Am. He did mention that has been an issue with a lot of people. I also told him how disappointed we all were with the lack of paddock access on the NASCAR weekend. He deflected that being a sanctioning body thing. I countered with it's one of the reasons I buy a season pass. Access... I did mention I would be there for the Can-Am weekend as I am Mini enthusiast that runs a run Mini based site. Gave him the name of the site and asked for the Marketing Dept contact recommending they advertise the event on M/A much like Watkins Glen did last year. They will contact me I was told. We shall see.
Yep, I got a call from them today as well almost the exact conversation. I added that we were asked to leave the paddock area last year on Indy weekend. He apologized and told me that they feel they will have a Tudor Series date next year. My response was I would then consider renewing my 2 passes then next year.
It is a sad, sad schedule this year....such a fantastic circuit to drive and watch a race, and I just feel like it's in a downward spiral...
At least we still have the Vintage Weekend. Other than that it's motorcycles, NASCRAP, and Indy Cars.
My "toy" is a heavily modded Honda S2000, and being that Mid-Ohio has a honda racing school they keep the S2000 club very close for all the events and use us for their parade laps. Anyway, I do have to agree that the schedual this year is pretty sad. Our community organizer for the S2k club is very close to one of the higher ups at the track and it seems they are going to take a tremendous hit this year in terms of returning pass holders. Hopefully somthing will change next year... I do have to say that the Indy event this year is going to be pretty important this year since its pretty late in their schedule so it should be a good race to watch. And as far as the paddock goes, the Nationwide series sets those rules not Mid-Ohio and it's a stupid rule. The vintage race is always my favorite, IDK, just my $.02.
But last year they even through us out of the pit lane during the Indy car race. That's never happened before. We got Friday and Saturday tickets for Indy to watch the World Challenge cars. So many of the Grand Am guys switched over to that series.
My plans are Fri Sat Vintage plus Fri Sat World Challenge too. With the money I have saved I may try to get a track day in at Nelson. :arf:
This should make the World Challenge race a bit more interesting...... Pirelli World Challenge - K-PAX to field McLarens in Pirelli World Challenge
Yes I was also sorry to see Randy not in one of those. As we all know it is money not talent these days. Randy is driving in the Continental series this year with Freedom Autosport in an MX5.
:cornut: Hey Nathan. You want DaveO and I should show up over there with brass knuckles and shoulder holsters and 'offer them a deal that they can't refuse.':lol::lol::lol: Jason
Don't forget to take one of those "Fiat Blasters" with you, too! A few rounds from THAT should soften those folks up, juuuuuuuuust right!
Just a reminder that pre-sale for all events ends on May 2nd (i'm sure most of you got the same email that I did).
Already got mine. I never got a call or a survey. I guess I just don't rate with only 3 VIP passes/ year on my account.
Bought my tickets a while ago. Guess I'll pick them up at will-call. Wouldn't want them to have spend money on a postage stamp. I did not get a call about VIP passes either, but I think they knew when I had a VIP pass that I was just a poser. :biggrin5:
My Mid-Ohio tickets landed in my post box today. Bet the rest of you guys will have yours in short order.
