We’ve gotten an early look at a few EPA figures for the US spec MINI Countryman. As we expect the new Valvatronic engine in the Cooper S variants has created a class leading mpg figure.

The Countryman Cooper S (FWD) will get 32 mpg on the highway while the Cooper S with ALL4 gets 31. For the Countryman Cooper the figures is even better at 35 highway.

It’s interesting to compare those with the other MINI models. For instance the disparity between the MC and the MCS is much smaller. The 2011 Cooper S gets 36 mpg (up from 34 despite the extra 9 hp) while the Cooper only gets 1 more at 37.
