UK's Car Magazine caught a production Mini Coupe strapped-down to a shipping pallet at an undisclosed location. The car's distinctive 'cap backwards' roofline has survived intact from the 2009 concept car, along with the contrasting-colour roof and twin racing stripes. We can also see the rear pillar layout, which thankfully provides a small rear side window underneath the heavily stylised roof and rear spoiler.

Visible in the second photo is the lip on the bootlid edge formed by the retractable spoiler. The rear wing deploys automatically from 50mph to provide additional stability. Hopefully without further constraining rear vision, which is truncated by the roof spoiler compared to the standard Mini hatchback.

This car is badged as a Mini Cooper S Coupe, which retains the 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Cooper S hatchback. The Cooper S lacks the bodykit and vent detailing of the car shown in last week's preview photos, which we believe to be reserved for the range-topping Mini John Cooper Works Coupe.

Love the color! Still not sure how I feel about the backwards cap roofline though...

I think a body colored top would look much better. It would hide the somewhat strange roofline. Just one old farts opinion here.....

Hmmmm.... it's looking better to me, but I'd like to reserve final judgement until I see one in person.

I'm trying to figure out if it's longer than the current Cooper, or is that an optical illusion? :confused5:

Possibly an illusion as it rides on the same wheelbase. The lower roof-line and different rear treatment may make it look longer.

It just isn't working for me. I will reserve my final judgement until I see it in person.

I've been thinking the same but I think I read that won't be a factory option. They want the non-body color roof to stand out so the roof is supposed to be a reversal of the hood. If the hood is blue with white stripes the roof is white with blue stripes.

I'm also in the wait to see more camp...I'd like to see it in this blue color with silver stripes (and of course silver roof with blue stripes) if that's an option.

I think the roadster convertible where you could lose the top completely will do wonders for the appearance.

From what I've read you can get a body colored roof in black/black but that's it. I personally love the design and can't wait until the configurator is available to order one.
