We picked up a jcw mini almost a month ago, from my other thread it already has a few upgrades, cold air, fmic, and a few other amusing add-ons. We were out the other day and the temp light came on. after calling Baron BMW in Kansas we found out we were still under warranty and called roadside. They picked the car up, took it 140 miles to Baron BMW. The next day I received a call saying it was the water pump that failed and they were installing a new one and going to check for further damage. I received a call today from the service adviser stating the cylinder walls are egg shaped and the head is warped. He further started that the only jcw engine he can get to replace is going to have to come from Germany and take 7-10 days to import. All my aftermarket is getting swapped over to the new engine. since the water pump failure caused the cylinder wall and head issue the new engine will be covered under warranty. so were out if the mini for about 2 Weeks. Sad sad times.
I'll second that but keep in mind you got a heck of a deal to have all that covered without having to fight for it on a MINI you bought used. I wish my local dealers/service depts were that good.
Very lucky indeed. the guy at Baron ran the vin and told us that it is covered under roadside for another 2-3 months. And sense it only has just over 20k miles there wasn't a problem. When I called roadside they asked for the vin and color, then asked the address. They had to update the address.... All in all I'm very shocked, and glad, the warranty held like this.
Wonder if having a temperature gauge might have warned the OP in time to save the engine? MINI - pennywise and pound foolish....... I've been a strong proponent of the brand, but even I'm starting to wonder if keeping my 09 S is a good move when it goes out of warranty....
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the temp gauge. I think when it returns I'll be I investing in a duel gauge pod for temp and boost. I'm ecstatic that everything is covered, its just the having to wait for the engine to be shipped from Germany, one would assume there would be a few replacement jcw engines already in the states. Guess they were so sure about it they didn't see a need for any.
Yeah, I was rather worried that once they seen the mods it would be game over. I'm not sure if the Dyno run would have started the issue, I didn't say anything about it anyway. Days without the mini just suck.
Baron estimates 10-12 days until the return of our mini. The engine is in transit from Germany, slight layover in customs (to ensure its not a bomb I assume), then on to Kansas. The service advisor said it would roughly take a full day to swap the engines. I'm thinking more like 2-3 days. All of my aftermarket will be reinstalled on the new engine. One couldn't ask for a better group of people. I'm rather ticked about the lack of a rental while this is going on, but I can't ***** too much getting a new engine.
we got the mini back a few days ago. Big difference when the compression is up where it should be. I've put about 300 miles on the new motor so I'm not really getting the boost up allot our taking the revs too high just yet. I've ordered the aero rear bumper cover and having it painted at Baron. Hot side boost tube installed, messed a bit with the accessport, and did some cutting to fit the m7 front strut bar with the Alta cold air. I was informed by Baron that there was no spacer plates behind the front rims. I'm in the process of finding some. All in all the car is running great, still cornering like a champ, and almost too much fun to drive.... Almost.
I'm not too familiar with an R56, but I'd suggest an Oil Pressure Gauge along with the H2O temp. Monitoring the life blood is a sound priority.
