This happened a week and a half ago. My pride and joy fell victim to Los Angeles traffic: The car also suffered front end damage from getting pushed into the car in front of it. My wife was driving. I will keep this updated with the progress. Right now the car is at the shop. No verdict on whether it is fixable or not.
Wow, that's horrible. From the damage I take it was some sort of truck or SUV that hit you. Hopefully the insurance company and body-shop take care of you and your MINI and can have good as new in no time.
Yep. A five ton 3 axle commercial truck. So do I. Looks like it might be border line. As long as there is no frame damage, I am good with it. But if the frame is damaged I think I will push for a write off.
I don't know how bad the damage to the front is or if the airbags deployed but given that the C-pillar looks undamaged (I know some insurance companies instantly write-off the vehicle if any of the pillars are compromised) and none of the impact was absorbed by the rear quarter panels I think you stand a very good chance of making a full recovery.
Quarters are damaged, but fixable. Front damage doesn't look bad on the surface, but will require new bumper and under pinnings and a new hood. Airbags did not go off, but the driver's seat did break. So just have to wait and see.
Ouch. That sucks. Hate to see a MINI hit like that - especially an irreplaceable 1st Gen! I hope you manage to get it fixed instead of totaled.
Oh, I did not say that. The wife was driving. She got all of the impact since the truck's bumper went over the mini bumper and bypassed any of the cushioning and crumple zones built in for impact absorption.
In that case, MINI be damned - I hope your wife will be OK. Some things are just more important. How is she? Hospital visit?
Oh yeah. She managed to drive the car off the freeway, followed by the CHP. But after that... Lets just say I can tell she has not been herself since the accident. Gonna take some time to get the cobwebs out..
Dude - sorry to see this. Hope your wife doesn't have long-term injuries.... those rear-enders are nasty.
Thanks. She is still young. She should get better. Otherwise, it's trade in time. So do I. If I can only get the body shop to call me back.
OMFG..... I'm now envisioning you at the dealership telling them she was rear-ended a bit too hard and you'd like one with less mileage and maybe neater body lines. OK, now I think I need to go to confession even though I'm neither Catholic nor terribly religious.
OH MAN THAT SUCKS!!! I've seen near collisions here on the 401 in Toronto with heavy traffic. All it takes is someone not to be watching for a split second and WHAMO!! I shudder every time I'm in that kind of traffic. Especially during LONG weekends. Hope everyone is alright!!! the car can be fixed. Again so sorry to hear about this happening. Hope you can get it repaired quickly and properly. Regards Scott.
Glad to hear your wife is OK!!! Considering what hit it, your MINI held up pretty well. Your rear plate looks fine MINIs are tough little buggers:yesnod:
