Who doesn't enjoy a leisurely Sunday drive to Cochrane for an ice cream at MacKay's? Now picture making that scenic drive in your brand new MINI accompanied down the highway by 20 new friends also driving MINIs: what was once a simple outing becomes an event. It's not an uncommon occurrence when you own a MINI. Just ask someone who does.

"I had no idea there was a social aspect to owning a MINI until I bought one," says one happy owner of a red MINI Cooper S. "I get waved at all the time, and sometimes people honk. Once, while parked at Chinook Centre, I even had someone leave a note on my windshield that read 'Nice car!' with a smiley face. And yes, I've been invited on field trips for ice cream."

And you thought MINIs were just good to look at. Indeed, they are--but they're also fuel-efficient (29 to 32 m.p.g. depending on the model), they possess the agility of a much pricier sports car and they make squeezing into even the tightest of parking spots a no-brainer. You'll also be amazed how spacious the interior really is. Sporty, chic and fashion-forward, the MINI will connect you with friends who see a drive to the store as anything but ordinary.

It starts at the point of purchase: when you enter the dealership, the MINI sales representative works hard at helping you choose just the right fit. Are you a traditionalist (British Racing Green Metallic, maybe)? Or in the market for something spicier (Chili Red)? As well, you'll get the opportunity to name your car (anecdotal evidence suggests most MINI owners like to name their cars) and you will be issued an adoption certificate.

Later, the service department will call and ask how "Nolan" or "Charlotte" is doing. And don't be surprised if "Nolan" or "Charlotte" receives a holiday card in December.

Once on the road, you'll soon experience the sociability of the MINI community. Sometimes it'll come in the form of a honk or wave from a fellow driver, but don't be surprised if you're asked to join a MINI club, or invited to take a road trip. By the way, don't worry if ice cream isn't your thing: upcoming MINI events include a Father's Day putting challenge in support of prostate cancer research and a potential July rafting trip down the Bow River. As well, be on the lookout this summer for 101.5 Energy FM's Goodwill Ambassador Carlos Cuevas and his MINI, Charlie (a name chosen by Calgary listeners). They'll be cruising the city doing more good deeds; for details visit AdoptaMINI.
