A friend in New York City swears he saw a (Mini Countryman?) driving around the city with an old (?) mini strapped on top of it. Yes, he swears it was actually driving and not just an ad like the snow globe. I have looked and can't find any photos, etc. Has anyone else heard of this? Links, etc.? Thanks.
Found it..... When MINI first launched in the US they mounted one on top of an SUV to show just how small it was. Well, with the launch of the all-new, four-wheel drive Countryman, MINI isn’t so mini anymore. So we simply couldn’t resist mounting a classic MINI on top of the Countryman, to show just how much we’ve grown. The copy on the side of the Countryman reads: “Holds everything you need for a fun weekend.â€
Hey Nathan THANKS! Too funny. Where did you find the pics, out of curiousity? And Jim I agree - it doesn't even look that much wider than the old one. It is definitely eye-catching but not sure it proves the "its bigger!" point.
Thats kind of a replay of an early promotion where they put a MINI ontop of some huge SUV (Chevy Suburban ?) I wouldn't want to do any spirited cornering with that setup
Exactly. Even though it's big for a MINI, most people don't realize that it's not very big in comparison to other vehicles ... in fact, it's the same size as a Honda Fit!
Now I want to buy a Countryman and an original mini. And take it to the track just like that! No trailer! :arf:
Yes, it's about 1.5 inches taller, and about 3.5 inches wider, but it's actually the exact same length as the Fit (13.475 ft), and is 6 inches shorter than a Scion xB and 1.68 feet shorter than a RAV4.
I was awake all last night wondering how it stacked up against the competition  One thing about the MINI is the height adjustability of the seat. It allows people to feel as though they're sitting higher (in a bigger vehicle) that other cars, which only go backwards and forwards. So the Countryman can feel bigger than it really is.
just posted a phone pic of the mini countryman with the mini classic on top. in the 'countryman' gallery (I think....) friend of friend snapped it and forwarded. sorry for the lousy quality but at least we have those other more spiffy ones too!
Just read this on Edmunds. looks like the Countryman / original Mini is a tour of sorts. "According to Mini, there are four of these "Mini on Countrymans" roaming the country. The two in Los Angeles will soon be split up and shipped to San Francisco and Dallas. The pair in New York will be sent to Chicago and Atlanta, respectively."
