Courtesy of the Highway Loss Data Institute, the information aggregation wing of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, is the latest vehicle theft data for 2007 to 2009 vehicles. To determine the rankings, HLDI compares the number of theft claims filed with insurers to the total number of vehicles of that model insured, as well as the average dollar amount paid out for a stolen vehicle of that model and the average dollar amount paid out per year for stolen copies of that model. MINI Cooper (0.8 for every 1000) "Each of our Minis are standouts. If you steal one, you're stealing a highly personalized car. Not too many of them look the same, which might have something to do with it." - Nathalie Bauters, MINI USA
Just saw something about this on the local news. I commented that I had never heard of a stolen MINI. Now if you happen to own an Escalade, you have the #1 stolen car, plus the knowledge that they can haul off most of your high priced possessions with it. Mark
If Nathan is a 'typical' MINI owner, they haven't stolen it because it doesn't run! (cheap shot... yeah, but the Gnat is back up and running! Yea)
If it's lowest in it's category I wonder how many other cars are in the 'minicar' category? It's a shame we're in the same category as a Prius. It's no wonder why nobody steals those, it's tough to make a high-speed getaway at 30mph.
Anyone else notice that most of the top stolen vehicles are large truck/suv's??? The better to haul away stolen merch I suppose???
Who steals an F-250?? The Silverado and Escalade make sense in my mind but an F-250? Maybe they ran out of space in the getaway car.
You forget us states where trailers are used to haul cattle and horses... Dang rustlers...we string em up here. F-250's outsell MINIs round these parts.
And yet, ironically, one of our local club members had her '04 MCS stolen just a couple weeks before this report came out.
Same around here, which is farm country. The local Ford dealer only has a few cars on the lot and acres of trucks. Jim
I've never heard of a MINI being stolen without without the key being stolen first or a flat-bed truck involved. Anyone else?
The owner had the key in her possession, I believe. Parked at night, all was well, came out the next morning, no MINI.
