[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pYPkcynYZI[/ame] We know MINI can throw a heck of a party, and the Scooter E Concept unveil in London looks like no exception. With BMW Head of Design Adrian Van Hooydonk doing the introductions, the reaction of the crowd seems understandably enthusiastic. Here’s hoping these scooters aren’t relegated only to London’s clubs, but find their way to London's streets.
More shots of the "in people" then anything else. They have never shown in any of the clips if the seat opens to carry things. If not, they will be limited in use, IMHO. Jim
I was digging through the Autocar stories. Gert Hildebrand says that one aim of the Scooter is to get younger people into the brand earlier so that they can transition into the MINI cars..... Wonder how many "transition" from Honda motorcycles to Honda cars? Or BMW Motorcycles to BMW cars? Or Suzukis? I had a Honda 650 Nighthawk. Never once thought of a Honda vehicle product till many, many years later when the wife wanted a 99 Civic SI. And my Nighthawk ownership experience was entirely decoupled from the buying of an SI. We just made a short list of cars she was interested in, and the SI was the one she liked the most. While the styling of the eScooter and the MINI cars shares a lot more than the other brands share across thier two wheeled and four wheeled products, it's an interesting assumption that this will get more into MINI cars as they get older, have kids and move to the suburbs... Interesting Matt. I owned two Honda Goldwings and never once thought about getting a car. It might be interesting to see if BMW has seen a connection between their motorcycles and their cars to prompt this? Jim
An acquaintance attended the unveiling which he described as extraordinary. However his conclusion was:
When a company spends this much money to test market... they will guage the feedback and go from that. If it's an "I want one!" from most of the people that see it, it may get built. If everyone says it sucks, it won't get built.... But it's too early to tell. If they've gone this far, there is a real possibility that there will be one to buy. Matt
