MINI is sending out these keychains that are searialized to the people that have ordered a new GP II. Letter Text... Image borrowed from the nice folk at Library of Motoring
Wow-eeeeeeee...a free key ring, to offset all that money spent on a new GP...this REALLY makes me want to run out and order one now....:frown2:
...or at least a full tank of gas and a free first service inspection. Keep the keychain, ya pikers and gimmie something worthwhile....
Has anyone really looked at the tire specs for the Kumho Ecsta v700's? Kumho Ecsta V700 UTQG = 50 yup only 50 at that rate they will only last a month two if you you are lucky. Oh and get this they are DOT dry race tires and autocross tires. That's how they beat the original GP by only 19 secongs and that GP had crappy street run flats. Kumho Ecsta V700 Oh for all the people that cry about the old Dunlop Star Specs Z 1 or the new ZII 's being rated at UTQG = 200 they will still last 4 times longer than the new GP II tires. Lololololo
couple of things i found odd...1 they did not sell all of the GP's...2nd...how many of these damn things are in the US...i talked to a dealership that got 9 of them...many dealers got a handful each...so it begs the question...are there really only 500 of them and maybe the reason why they didnt number them at first is so there can be more and not get called out?
what i love in that letter is that is says its rare? only rare thing about it is that its that one is rarely left with money in the bank after buying one... kinda hard to say its rare when all of the parts are available for purchase and the part numbers are out there...friend of mine already put the diffuser on his coupe
Well I'd have to say the complete car is the rare item, maybe limited edition would have been better wording. If there's only 500 out of 2000 that is rare. Is the R53 GP not rare also?
the R53 is far more rare...the GP2 is a stock color you can get on any JCW...the engine is the same(they changed the tune)...the seats are a stock option as well as the leather dash(sans red stitch)...and the other thing is all of the parts are purchasable...so in theory you can get a bog standard JCW hardtop in Eclipse gray...get a silver vinyl roof done and put all of the parts on the car and aside from the stickers they would be identical...its hard to pull that off with the R53 GP as the paint was a one off...the aero package is unique as well...you see a GP Aero package and its instantly recognizable... im waiting for someone to de sticker a GP2...you will be left with a JCW with red accents
I agree that making all of the parts for the GP2 available to anyone is going to create a lot of faux-GP's. However, the GP2 is Thunder Grey Metallic. Which you can't get on any other model. I just think it's a shame that the US GP2's have less horsepower than the Euro GP2's.
its eclipse gray with one slight darker shade...i saw the two colors side by side and really couldnt tell much of a difference... honestly its hard to call them Faux GP's when if you strip the stickers away you have a stock looking JCW...i think the other models will look better than the GP with the parts on them well the problem is you have to look at fuel ratings between here and the EU...the highest here is 93 pump gas...over there its much higher so they are getting more power that way...the tunes are the same its just they get higher octane gas
If you just take another JCW and add the GP parts, regardless of the parts being available, it still ISN'T a GP. What I mean by that is specifically in resale, a car with GP parts is not as valuable as a car that actually is the real thing. If you don't like it, just don't get one lol simple as that. So far many of the GPs are selling, from the people who I have talked to that got one said it's truly a great car.
Id rather save the extra coin on the GP2 and almost on the JCW and get the S. For far less than the sticker of a JCW or GP2, an S can in every way out perform those cars with a few mods. GP2 to me is just an elitest thing to say I have a GP2. I think there will be far less replica GP2s than people think. And the argument could be had about MCS's that have the JCW areo kit, even though they are not a JCW and vice versa. All in all if people want to spend their money on them go ahead. Continue on about how your R53s are so much better. yada yada yada.
Strip the parts and sticker (yech) off of the GP2...what do you have? you have a slightly darker gray JCW with the red accent kit strip the sticker off of the GP1...oh hey its still a GP! you cant mistaken the GP1...ive seen a couple of pictures posted on facebook of people driving their GP2's and quite a few comments where asking if it was infact a GP! i continue to lambast MINIUSA and MINI constantly about their laziness about this "GP" i was among many who were excited to hear about a 2nd GP...but when i saw it finally...i was beyond disgusted with what mini did...instead of substance they took style...211hp? really? so once again another MINI is released that is stock less hp than my almost 10yr old R53 so in the world of JCW tuning...they went from 208hp to 211hp...so across 2 generations and multiple engines...they have gained 3 hp
