In addition to pricing and option changes for the 2015 model year, MINI is changing something else with regards to warranty. The 4 year, 50,000 mile factory warranty is no longer transferrable beyond the first owner. But for an additional cost, which could vary from dealer to dealer, the remainder of the warranty can be […] More...
Warranty costs can be controlled by making a good reliable car. Make an unreliable car and then push the cost to support warranties over on the owners??? Not a good long term strategy if you want to keep a loyal customer base....
It will hurt the resale value if the new owners can't use the rest of the warranty. I wounder if this is to push the certified pre-owned for the dealers.
I'm sorry MINI is on the edge of way over priced! Look at the GP2, my dealer can't get rid of the last one! I would laugh in there face if I went to buy a car and this was the deal.
Reflect back on Bank of America's ill conceived idea to add usage fees to their credit cards. The huge hue and cry of their customers pushed back and the idea was run thru the shredder. Maybe a similar campaign could have a similar effect.
I think its a great idea because the new F56 is the best MINI ever made and no one will want to trade it in before 4 years so this is really a Non-issue. YAY MINI and the house of BMW.
Netflix tried the same thing with CD vs streaming.... CEO had egg on his face and quickly backed up...
Well, Dave, I guess if you are REALLY so put out with "MINI and the house of BMW" you could suggest that they sell the MINI out to FIAT!
That is a great idea, because it would be a cheaper car and have lots of dealers ships across the US to service them.
Practically speaking, this will kill MINI in the U.S. What does this policy say to potential buyers, other than "At MINI, we build crap cars - and we won't stand behind them?" In addition, I never keep my daily drivers past the warranty period, and I always use "remaining factory warranty" as a selling point. In all my years around the car business, I have never seen a more carefully considered and self-destructive decision. Bye-bye, MINI.
But wait when you get a new R56 the New Original & greatest MINI EVER MADE you will see why. Come in and buy one and after a few years you wont ever want to trade it in. Its that damn good. You just have to trust ($$$) MINI and the house of BMW they know much more than you and I. They will provide us everything we will ever want.
I'ma stickin with my wax cylinder recording media.... If it was good for Thomas Edison.... It's good enough for me.... David.0..... Them sandpaper cuts not healing up for ya this mornin?
Hey I am just trying to stay super positive about the new R56 because I don't want to bring the site down for new R56 owners. Its a great car and we are not allowed to say anything bad about it or MINI AT ALL. No real feelings or opinions are allowed, This has to be an R56 love fest or you and M\A are labeled a haters.
And here I thought it was the F56 you liked the most.... Now your hitting on the R56 crowd.... I like my R56....rrr:
We're going to have to coexist-- I'm not a fan of either 56's, but there are many R56 owners that are just as enthusiastic as us R53 owners (I would temper that by saying a higher percentage of R53 owners are enthusiasts than R56 owners, but that's a different debate), and I suspect we'll have plenty of F56 enthusiasts soon. BMW is taking MINI in a direction many of us don't agree with, but we're in the minority--hopefully the community will have enough enthusiasts to keep it large and viable; time will tell. People just have to keep in mind hating on a car isn't the same as hating on the owner; if everyone takes a deep breath whenever someone (inappropriately) slams an R53, or (correctly) slams an R56/F56, all will be well. As for the F56, IF BMW comes out with a 300HP GP version, I predict there will be a few likes.... And Dave, if you're going to have the world's longest sig, and make me read all that, the least you can do is change that "do" to "of". Church do MINI sounds uncomfortably like a bunch of Catholic priests doing naughty thing to a small car; the religion has suffered enough recently, give it some slack...
